An emotional moment in Sant'Agata Bolognese at the culmination of the gala celebrating Lamborghini's 50th anniversary: Walter De Silva's incredible vehicle made its entry in front of a thousand invitees, the Head of Design for the Volkswagen Group's homage to celebrating the House of the Raging Bull's half century. "I am very attached to this Italian brand, being an Italian myself. I wanted to pay homage to and think up a vehicle to underline the fact that Lamborghinis have always been made with passion, and with the heart more than the head," said an emotional De Silva.

The Egoista, as the vehicle has been christened, is a car forged from a passion for innovation and alternative solutions, the same passion which has always set the Lamborghini brand apart. "This is a car made for one person only, to allow them to have fun and express their personality to the maximum. It is designed purely for hyper-sophisticated people who want only the most extreme and special things in the world. It represents hedonism taken to the extreme, it is a car without compromises, in a word: egoista (selfish)," De Silva further explained.

The supercar's debut was equally spectacular, with a cinematic entry announced by a trailer projected onto the nine big screens in the room. The stage was transformed into a landing strip, with a top model in a flight suit guiding the Egoista's arrival with ground crew light paddles, and the roar of the V10 engine shaking the 20-meter-tall tensioned event structure: this is the spectacle the VIP guests were treated to when Lamborghini President and CEO Stephan Winkelmann entered at the wheel of the Egoista, before inviting its creator, Walter De Silva, to join him on stage.

The Concept and technology
Powered by a 5.2-liter V10 engine supplying it with 600 horsepower, the Lamborghini Egoista is an intentionally extreme and unusual vehicle with absolutely unique characteristics, created by the Volkswagen Group design team - Alessandro Dambrosio responsible for the exterior and Stefan Sielaff for the interior, in particular. De Silva's team chose to create a single-seater, pushing all the characteristics in Lamborghini's make-up meaning pure driving pleasure, performance and style beyond their limits. The cockpit, designed like a tailor-made suit for the driver, is a removable section which, once combined with the rest of the vehicle, creates a perfect technical, mechanical and aerodynamic unit. Inspiration, as per Lamborghini tradition, once again comes from the world of aviation, and in particular the Apache helicopter, where the cockpit can be ejected in an emergency.

The design
The exterior is characterized by two fundamental aspects: its architecture, and the materials used. The design is determined by a highly muscular structure, in which empty and solid areas fit together with strength and vigor. The bodywork is dominated, on its sides, by the stylized profile of a bull preparing to charge, its horns lowered. The bull is driving towards the front wheels, conferring a futuristic dynamism and lines which are already, in themselves, highly aggressive. Naturally, this is a homage, a bold stylistic citation which can only be a reworking of the Lamborghini brand icon, the well-known raging bull. The challenge of efficiently inserting the Lamborghini symbol as an integral part of the bodywork was met courageously and artistically. The plan view reveals a trimaran profile, where the central hull forms a unique section with the cockpit, underlined by the carbon-fiber cover on the front hood.

The upper part of the vehicle does not have aerodynamic appendages, but rather flaps integrated in the bodywork profile which act automatically depending on the driving conditions. Two rear flaps activate automatically at high speeds to increase stability, while a series of air intakes on the back of the engine hood provides the cooling air flow to the powerful V10 power plant. While the front of the vehicle has a profile intended to increase downforce, the rear is fully open with the mechanics in view, reducing weight but also with the result of creating a more aggressive look. The Lamborghini Egoista's lights are more like an aircraft's than a road vehicle's. It does not have traditional headlights, rather LED clearance lights which determine its position not just on a single plane such as the road, but rather in three dimensions, as is required in airspace. Two white front lights, two red rear lights, a red flashing light in the upper part of the tail, two orange bull's eyes as side markers, and a further two lights on the roof, red on the left and green on the right, make this four-wheeled UFO unique even in the dark. Finally, hidden behind the front air intakes at the base of the join between the central body and the two side sections, are two powerful xenon headlamps, two eagle's eyes able to scan the darkness for great distances. As it is made from lightweight materials such as aluminum and carbon-fiber, the vehicle has no-walk zones, duly marked like on airliners. The parallels with the world of aeronautics do not end here, however, as the body is made from a special antiradar material, and the glass is anti-glare with an orange gradation. The rims are also made from antiradar material, flat and rough, embellished with carbon-fiber plates to improve their aerodynamics.

The Interior
The cockpit's interior is extremely rational, its functionality taken to the extreme. There is a racing seat with a four-point seatbelt, each strip a different color, the airbags, and the bare minimum of instruments. The focal point of these is a head-up display, typical of jet fighters. To get out of the vehicle, the driver must remove the steering wheel and rest it on the dashboard, open the dome with an electronic command, stand up in their seat, sit down on a precise point of the left-hand bodywork, then swivel their legs 180 degrees from the inside of the cockpit to the outside of the vehicle. At this point they can set their feet down and stand up. Even in getting out of the vehicle, the Lamborghini Egoista requires a pilot more than a driver, a real top gun.

The philosophy
The Egoista contains, in Walter De Silva's opinion, all the product criteria which are part of Lamborghini's make-up. "It's as if Ferruccio Lamborghini were saying: I'm going to put the engine in the back, I don't want a passenger. I want it for myself, and I want it as I imagine it to be. It is a fanatical vehicle, Egoista fits it well."

If Lamborghinis are cars for the few, this one goes further. It is a car for itself, a gift from Lamborghini to Lamborghini, resplendent in its solitude. The Egoista is pure emotion, Never Never Land, which no one can ever possess, and which will always remain a dream, for everyone.

The Kia Motors America (KMA) unveiled the all-new 2014 Cadenza premium sedan, the most technologically-advanced vehicle Kia has ever introduced in North America. An announcement at Cobo Hall during the 2013 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) confirmed Kia's intentions to enter into the premium-sedan segment. The Kia Cadenza expands KMA's lineup of inspiring and award-winning vehicles while moving the brand up-market with an impressive list of premium standard and optional equipment, including Advanced Smart Cruise Control (ASCC), Blind Spot Detection (BSD) and Lane-Departure Warning System (LDWS). The Cadenza is expected to arrive in Kia retail showrooms in the second quarter of 2013.

With its distinctive front fascia and swept C-pillars, the Kia Cadenza's taut European design language is evident. That it's propelled by Kia's most powerful V6 engine further announces its intentions to provide an invigorating driving experience. Inside, unparalleled premium appointments for five occupants strike the ideal balance between sport and luxury. Combining these elements with technology that, until now, has never been offered on any Kia vehicle in the market, the Kia Cadenza quickly rises to the lofty elevation of being the brand's most advanced U.S. product.

Sophisticated Features and Technology
Offered in one opulently equipped trim level, the Kia Cadenza takes in-car technology and premium features to an entirely new level. Standard features include an advanced navigation system with SiriusXM Traffic™ and UVO eServices, displayed on a high resolution 8-inch touch screen. Further enhancing driver assurance is a standard back-up camera and warning system, as well as a premium 550-watt Infinity® 12-speaker audio system including rear surround speakers and subwoofer. The Kia Cadenza's standard equipment level is on par with many premium brands and boasts standard leather seat trim, dual-zone automatic climate control with rear seat ventilation, Smart Key keyless entry with push-button start, 10-way power adjustable driver's seat and Bluetooth® wireless technology. European Design Evokes Premium Sport-Sedan Elegance
Penned under the watchful eye of Peter Schreyer, Kia's global chief of design, the Kia Cadenza's broad shoulders, contoured hood, large wheels and wide stance give it a strong and grounded appearance. The striking design has a distinctive sport-sedan form, as if the car would be equally comfortable on the Autobahn or carving through the Swiss Alps.

The aggressive "Tiger Nose" front fascia instantly speaks to Kia's brand identity. Flanking the grille are quad headlights that nestle deeply behind crystalline lenses. The lower fascia is wide, lending to the Kia Cadenza's imposing stance, and chrome trim accents around the fog lights and grille add to the vehicle's premium presence. LED positioning lights and available HID headlights provide additional European sophistication.

Perhaps best enjoyed in profile, the Kia Cadenza's silhouette is at once strong and elegant. The vertical nose is imposing; the long hood is sensuously sculpted to meet the swept-back windshield. The greenhouse curves gracefully to the C-pillar and is surrounded by a tasteful chrome bezel that flares upward at the rear door, effectively creating a beautiful glass droplet. Beginning just aft of the front-door cutline is a chiseled indentation that sweeps upward, seamlessly transitioning into the tail lights. Classic chrome accents adorn the lower portions of the doors and the treatment continues into the rear fascia. The 19-inch alloy wheels offered in the Technology Package resemble a jet turbine and add to the Kia Cadenza's athletic stature.

Moving to the rear of the vehicle, the standard LED taillights sit high on the deck and are designed to cut across a large portion of the vehicle, lending to the Kia Cadenza's broad stance. The twin oval tail pipes accentuate the Cadenza's sporty and elegant design.

The interior of the Kia Cadenza envelops its occupants in a premium environment complete with soft leather upholstery and tasteful accents of wood and chrome. Ambient lighting and horizontally positioned switch gear radiates an uncluttered and sophisticated aesthetic. An elegant analog clock centered between the center stack buttons lends a classic feel. The center console is angled toward the driver for optimized control, and an available large seven-inch high-resolution TFT LCD screen in the gauge cluster showcases a wide range of vehicle information including turn-by-turn navigation and infotainment. Elegant chrome bezels surround the HVAC and audio controls, air vents and the standard push-button start. Standard Bluetooth, wood-trim door inserts, one-touch automatic up/down power front windows and power-folding heated outside mirrors with integrated turn signal indicators all enhance the Cadenza's premium image.

Engaging Driving Experience
The Kia Cadenza is equipped with Kia's most powerful V6 engine ever. The smooth-revving 3.3-liter utilizes gasoline direct injection (GDI) technology that improves performance while maintaining fuel efficiency. Power is seamlessly transferred to the front wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission that includes a Sportmatic manual shift mode and paddle shifters flanking the leather and wood-wrapped steering wheel. The GDI powerplant produces 293 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 255 lb.-ft. of torque at 5,200 rpm. The advanced all-aluminum engine features dual continuously variable valve timing for improved fuel economy and performance, a maintenance-free timing chain, a three-step variable induction system for enhanced torque, and is designed to run on regular unleaded gasoline. During durability testing, the engine is run 300 continuous hours at redline under full load then for an additional 20 hours at 10 percent above redline under full load.

To maximize driver engagement and performance, the Cadenza features a sport-tuned fully independent suspension with a McPherson strut setup in front and a multilink rear design. The Kia Cadenza rides on standard 245/45R-18 tires while 245/40R-19 tires are included with the Technology Package.

To further enhance performance and safety, while reducing NVH, 60 percent of the body structure is strengthened through the utilization of High Tensile Steel (HTS), which helps improve torsional rigidity. HTS is produced through a 1,650 degree hot-stamping process, designed to toughen steel. Further reducing the Kia Cadenza's NVH is an extensive list of noise reducing technologies, including a hydraulic transmission mount, optimally tuned damper on the rear cross member and specially designed wheels (the multiple fins help reduce wind noise at highway speeds).

The new 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee completely redefines the premium SUV, delivering consumers an unprecedented combination of best-in-class fuel economy and driving range, available clean-diesel technology, a choice of leading power train options, legendary benchmark capability, world-class craftsmanship, premium on-road driving dynamics, and a host of advanced user-friendly technology and safety features.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee delivers a best-in-class 30 miles per gallon (mpg) highway courtesy of a new 3.0-liter Eco Diesel V-6 engine for North America and a new eight-speed transmission. The new 3.0-liter Eco Diesel V-6 boasts an unmatched driving range of more than 730 miles.

A new eight-speed transmission drives the new Eco Diesel, as well as Grand Cherokee's 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine - now achieving up to 25 mpg highway and more than 600-miles driving range - and its 5.7-liter V-8, now achieving up to 21 mpg highway.

Legendary Jeep capability comes courtesy of three available 4x4 systems, Jeep's Quadra-Lift air suspension system and class-leading Selec-Terrain traction management system. Grand Cherokee boasts best-in-class towing of 7,400 pounds, and an improved crawl ratio of 44.1:1 for 2014.

A new, refined exterior design - complete with available new bi-xenon headlamps with signature LED daytime running lamps (DRL) - provides an even more premium appearance. Interior luxury is achieved with premium amenities including Natura leather, exotic open-pore wood trim and new color offerings.

Powertrain
Among all of the many new 2014 Jeep® Grand Cherokee features, two in particular contribute to vastly improved fuel economy and driving performance: a new, clean, 3.0-liter Eco Diesel V-6 engine and a new eight-speed automatic transmission.

The result: Jeep has taken the most awarded SUV in history and raised the benchmark even further, achieving fuel economy up to 30 miles per gallon (mpg) in Eco Diesel form, and improved fuel economy, drivability and overall performance across the Grand Cherokee lineup.

Jeep Grand Cherokee's new 3.0-liter Eco Diesel V-6 engine is expected to achieve 30 mpg highway with a driving range of more than 730 miles. The award-winning Pentastar V-6 engine delivers 25 mpg, with a best-in-class range of more than 600 miles. And the legendary 5.7-liter V-8's fuel economy improves 5 percent, now achieving 21 mpg.

All-new clean 3.0-liter Eco Diesel V-6 engine
Enthusiasts in North America have been clamoring for a diesel-powered Grand Cherokee and Jeep has delivered. Producing a class-leading 240 horsepower and massive 420 lb.-ft. of torque, the 3.0-liter Eco Diesel is capable of towing 7,400 pounds - more than any competitor's V-8 equipped SUVs. With a 30-percent increase in fuel economy and a 56-percent increase in torque versus the Pentastar V-6 engine, the Eco Diesel achieves 21 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway in 4x2 models. This allows for a best-in-class driving range of more 730 miles. Full-time 4x4 models have fuel economy figures of 20 city and 28 highway.

The new, 50-state legal, clean 3.0-liter Eco Diesel engine produces low CO2 emissions. MultiJet II common-rail injection and Selective Catalyst Reduction (SCR) help this new engine achieve these results.

The 24-valve, dual-overhead-cam engine features a block and bed plate crafted from strong compacted graphite iron (CGI), which contributes to stiffness without penalizing performance.

The clean 3.0-liter Eco Diesel's 60-degree cylinder banks enable more efficient packaging, while effectively balancing the potent inertia generated by torque-rich diesels.

Driver and passengers alike can expect a smooth, quiet ride on any journey. The new engine's 1-4-2-5-3-6 firing order helps manage rotation so neatly it needs no balance shaft to deliver the level of refinement for which the Grand Cherokee is known.

Further contributing to quieter performance, as well as optimal fuel economy and emissions reduction, is the clean diesel's common-rail fuel-injection system. Its 29,000-psi (2,000-bar) pressure is unmatched by any solenoid-based system.

Swirl-control intake ports benefit from a variable-geometry turbocharger and inter cooler that ensure the required engine response, whether merging on-road or surging off-road.

Temperature extremes are also addressed. The new engine's turbo is water-cooled to handle searing heat, while low-voltage ceramic glow plugs accommodate quicker cold-weather starts.

All-new eight-speed transmission
All three Jeep Grand Cherokee engines are now attached to Chrysler Group's new eight-speed automatic transmission, which provides better fuel economy, quicker acceleration and smoother shifting. Another benefit is a lower crawl ratio of 44.1:1 to aid in climbing over - or through - tough obstacles when equipped with a two-speed transfer case. This is a 46 percent improvement over the previous model's crawl ratio.

Robust enough to accommodate the Grand Cherokee Eco Diesel's prodigious torque, the new-for-2014 gearbox delivers not only the promise of durability, but its precise shift schedule enhances ride quality to luxury-car levels.

Fully electronic, the eight-speed automatic features on-the-fly shift map changing, with manual shifting capability and Electronic Range Select using steering-wheel paddle controls. More than 40 individual shift maps for specific conditions optimize shift quality and shift points for fuel economy, performance and drivability. The intelligent software takes into account variables including engine torque gradients, kick-down events, longitudinal and lateral acceleration, grade changes, friction detection and downshift detection to determine the appropriate shift map. Additional parameters integrated into the control strategy include vehicle speed control, electronic stability control interaction and temperature. The result is automatic shifting ideally attuned to the performance requirements of almost any driving demand.

The transmission efficiency and wide ratio spread provide the best possible fuel economy by operating at a lower engine rpm in both city and highway environments. The addition of more gear ratios also helps reduce the gaps normally associated with upshifting and downshifting.

Gear changes are nearly imperceptible due to the evenly spaced gear steps between each gear ratio. Internally, the transmission has four gear sets and five shift elements (multi-disc clutches and brakes). Only two shift elements are open at any time. With fewer open shift elements, drag losses due to multiple parts rotating relative to one another are reduced, improving fuel efficiency.

Award-winning 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine
Twice named one of Ward's 10 Best Engines, Grand Cherokee's standard 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine boasts 25 mpg on the highway for 2014 - a 9 percent jump from the prior model year.

The standard flex-fuel 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine generates 290 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque. Combined with the new eight-speed transmission, Pentastar-equipped Grand Cherokees are now able to tow 6,200 pounds, a 24 percent increase over the previous year. The transmission also helps the V-6 models to achieve 17 mpg city and 25 mpg highway on 4x2 and 4x4 models. This allows the Grand Cherokee to have best-in-class driving range of more than 600 miles for gasoline-powered SUVs.

Grand Cherokee's 3.6-liter V-6 engine features a double-overhead cam (DOHC) and high-flow intake and exhaust ports, which in combination with variable valve timing (VVT) via dual independent cam phasing, allow optimum volumetric and combustion efficiency over the full speed and load range. This results in an exceptional, flat torque curve along with high specific power. The engine's torque exceeds 90 percent of its peak value from 1,600 to 6,400 rpm, which provides customers outstanding drivability and responsiveness.

Structural, intake and exhaust areas of the 3.6-liter V-6 engine are designed to deliver low levels of overall noise and achieve specific sound quality goals that meet discerning customer requirements.

An environmentally friendly oil filter system with optional integrated oil cooler is used to help protect the environment via incineration of the filter element. The use of long-life spark plugs and a high-energy coil-on-plug ignition system also helps reduce cost of ownership.

Celebrated 5.7-liter V-8 engine
Fuel economy improvements are not exclusive to Jeep Grand Cherokee's V-6 powertrains. The 5.7-liter V-8 engine produces 360 horsepower and 390 lb.- ft. of torque, and boasts best-in-class towing capacity of 7,400 pounds. Now mated to the new eight-speed transmission, and owing in part to VVT and Chrysler Group's seamless Fuel Saver cylinder-deactivation technology, the V-8 models now offer improved fuel economy of 15 mpg city and 21 mpg while 4x4-equipped models get a bump to 14 mpg city and 21 mpg highway.

The 5.7-liter engine's VVT improves fuel economy in two ways. First, it reduces the engine's pumping work by closing the intake valve later. Second, it increases the expansion process of the combustion event. This allows more work to be transferred to the crankshaft instead of being rejected out of the exhaust port as heat. VVT improves engine breathing, which further improves engine efficiency and power.

The 5.7-liter engine's Fuel Saver Technology with cylinder-deactivation seamlessly alternates between smooth, high-fuel-economy four-cylinder mode when less power is needed and V-8 mode when more power is in demand. This optimizes fuel economy when V-8 power is not required, without sacrificing vehicle performance or capability.

Eco Mode further improves fuel efficiency
The 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee features a new Eco Mode that contributes to its improved fuel economy. Eco Mode optimizes the Grand Cherokee transmission's shift schedule and - in V-8 models - Fuel Saver Technology with cylinder deactivation as well as throttle sensitivity to maximize fuel economy. The Eco Mode also manages interactive deceleration fuel shut-off (IDFSO), which cuts fuel delivery when the vehicle is coasting to reduce fuel consumption.

In addition, the Eco Mode activates the vehicle's air suspension system (if so equipped), lowering the Jeep Grand Cherokee to "Aero Ride Height" earlier to improve fuel economy.

Eco Mode is automatically engaged upon vehicle startup. A button on the center stack allows driver's to disengage Eco Mode if more spirited performance is desired.

The Engineering
Since its complete redesign for the 2011 model year, Jeep® Grand Cherokee has received numerous accolades for its premium on-road driving dynamics, given its exceptionally stiff body structure and front and rear independent suspension. Combining that luxurious on-road performance with Jeep's seemingly unending level of capability results in a driving experience that is unquestionably unmatched, on any road or trail.

Air suspension
The 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee rises above the road and rocks with the rugged Quadra-Lift air suspension system. The Quadra-Lift system features five height settings for optimum ride performance:
  • Normal Ride Height (NRH): 8.7 inches of clearance offers improved fuel economy as well as improved aerodynamics during on-road driving
  • Off-road 1: Lifts the vehicle an additional 1.3 inches from NRH for added height in clearing obstacles (10.0 inches)
  • Off-road 2: Delivers legendary Jeep off-road capability and provides an additional 2.6 inches from NRH for 11.3 inches of ground clearance
  • Park Mode: Lowers the vehicle 1.6 inches from NRH for easy ingress/egress. NRH and Park Mode are driver selectable allowing the driver full control over vehicle ride height
  • Aero Mode: Lowers the vehicle 0.6 inches from NRH. Aero Mode is controlled by vehicle speed and adjusts for optimal performance and fuel economy. The vehicle will also lower to Aero Mode when in Sport Mode.

When the vehicle is operating in Eco Mode, it lowers itself to Aero Mode when vehicle speeds are between 52 mph and 56 mph for 20 seconds, or exceeds 56 mph, further enhancing Jeep Grand Cherokees aerodynamics for optimum efficiency.

Quadra-Lift adds up to 4.2-inches of lift span supported by four-corner air springs that provide a cushioned, premium ride. Quadra-Lift operates automatically, or may be controlled manually with console controls.

With the front air dam removed and the available Quadra-Lift air suspension, the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee features a 35.8-degree approach angle, a 29.6-degree departure angle and 23.5-degree breakover angle.

The 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee is also available with load-leveling shocks. When payload is added to the vehicle, the shock's gas pressure increases until the vehicle reaches NRH.

Advantages to load-leveling shocks include improved load handling and trailer-tow performance. Load-leveling shocks are available with trailer-tow packages that do not already have the Quadra-Lift air suspension.

Selec-Terrain
In addition to the Quadra-Lift air suspension, the Grand Cherokee's Selec-Terrain traction control system allows customers to choose the on- and off-road setting for optimum performance. This feature electronically coordinates up to 12 different powertrain, braking and suspension systems, including throttle control, transmission shift, transfer case, Hill-descent Control and Selec-Speed Control.

The Selec-Terrain system has been refined for 2014 and offers five different driving conditions to achieve the best driving experience on all terrains:
  • Sand: Traction control and Quadra-Lift operate with sensitive response to wheel spin, and torque tuned for optimal performance in sand
  • Mud: Traction control and Quadra-Lift operate with sensitive response to wheel spin, and torque tuned for optimal performance in mud
  • Auto: Automatically adapts to any on- or off-road situation
  • Snow: Vehicle traction adjust for ultimate performance over snow-covered roads
  • Rock: Quadra-Lift suspension raises to maximum height of 11.3 inches, while the transfer case, differentials, and throttle coordinate to provide low-speed control

Sport Mode, previously found on the Selec-Terrain controller, is now engaged with the shift lever. Sport Mode provides enhanced on-road "fun-to-drive" capability.

Selec-Terrain, coupled with the Quadra-Lift air suspension, offers drivers an adjustable suspension span that delivers Trail Rated performance.

Go Anywhere 4x4 Systems
The 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee features three 4x4 systems - Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II and Quadra-Drive II.

Quadra-Trac I delivers full-time four-wheel drive without any switches or levers to pull. The system provides smooth operation of the vehicle over a variety of road conditions. This lightweight single-speed transfer case is both proven and efficient for enhanced fuel economy.

Quadra-Trac II's two-speed transfer case uses input from a variety of sensors to determine tire slip at the earliest possible moment and takes corrective action. The system also uses Throttle Anticipate to sense quick movement in the throttle from a stop and maximizes traction before tire slippage occurs. When wheel slippage is detected, as much as 100 percent of available torque is instantly routed to the axle with the most traction.

Quadra-Drive II, with a rear Electronic Limited-slip Differential (ELSD), delivers industry-leading tractive capability. The system instantly detects tire slip and smoothly distributes engine torque to tires with traction. In some cases, the vehicle will anticipate low traction and adjust in order to proactively limit or eliminate slip.

Selec-Terrain is standard with Quadra-Trac II and Quadra-Drive II.

Trail Rated
All 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokees equipped with the Off-road groups are Trail Rated. The Jeep Trail Rated badge on the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee indicates that the vehicle is designed to perform in a variety of challenging off-road conditions identified by five key consumer-oriented performance categories: traction, ground clearance, maneuverability, articulation and water fording.

The 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee is an increased crawl ratio of 44.1:1 compared to 30.2:1 (3.6-liter V-6) of the previous generation, a 46 percent improvement.

Jeep Trail Rated is a unique methodology used by Jeep Engineering to measure and predict off-road performance for all Jeep vehicles. Through a combination of natural and controlled field tests, Jeep Trail Rated provides a consistent measurement of off-road performance for all Jeep vehicles. Only Jeep vehicles are Trail Rated.

Selec-Speed Control
Jeep Grand Cherokee offers a new, important capability feature for 2014. Selec-Speed Control features both Hill-descent Control - and brand new Hill-ascent Control. This allows the Grand Cherokee to climb and descend steep grades with minimal driver input.

On-road refinement
Jeep Grand Cherokee is widely known for its outstanding on-road driving dynamics, thanks in part to its front and rear independent suspension. Variable-rate rear springs deliver improved on-road handling and comfort that complements the vehicle's off-road capability. Premium on-road manners are enhanced with more than 5,400 welds in the body alone.

The independent front and rear suspension features isolated front and rear suspension cradles along with variable-rate rear springs to deliver improved on-road handling and comfort while complementing the vehicle's legendary off-road capability. The rear suspension also allows the spare tire to be stored inside the vehicle as opposed to underneath.

Grand Cherokee's steering has also been carefully calibrated for the right amount of assistance whether cruising the parking lot or a twisty two-lane mountain road. Electrohydraulic assistance is used on EcoDiesel and Pentastar V-6 models.

Design
When the current-generation Jeep® Grand Cherokee made its debut, it impressed consumers with its cohesive, upscale design that was still able to convey the rugged capability expected in a Jeep vehicle. For 2014, Grand Cherokee takes its successful recipe to a new level of opulence and strength in both exterior and interior design.

All trim levels of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee have been given a more premium look, and are more readily identifiable at a quick glance. On all Grand Cherokee models, the upper grille is shorter in height and the headlamps are slimmer. The lower front fascia has been slightly elevated and the fog lights have been raised and are more pronounced within the fascia design. Together, these changes give the front of the Grand Cherokee a more substantial appearance while still preserving the vehicle's ground clearance at its lower edge.

Of course, Grand Cherokee retains Jeep's classic seven-slot grille and trapezoidal wheel arches.

The rear of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee features new, larger tail lamps with signature LED lighting, a larger rear spoiler to aid in efficient aerodynamics and a re-sculpted tailgate that offers greater rear visibility, and a more pronounced Jeep badge, now found directly on the tailgate between the tail lamps. Lower rear fascias are now model-specific, and dual exhaust tips are standard on all Limited, Overland and Summit models.

New premium LED lighting
A key exterior feature of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee is its signature front and rear LED lighting. These unique lights allow Grand Cherokee to be instantly recognizable, night or day, from a great distance. Standard on Overland and Summit, and available on Limited, are new bi-xenon high-intensity discharge (HID) headlamps (adaptive on Summit) that are outlined with signature LED running lamps. The LEDs start at the inner upper edge at the grille, and follow the outer edge of the light. A slight kink upward occurs at the bottom edge of the LED lights as it nears the inner edge. This also allows for the Summit model's hidden headlamp washers to be placed within the headlamp housing as opposed to a separate nozzle located on the bumper.

The signature headlamps also feature full LED turn indicators.
The LED lights in the rear tail lamps follow the same pattern as the headlamps. A red ring of LED lamps follows the outline of the stop lights and illuminates when the headlamps are on. The lower portion of the tail lamp assembly is outlined in chrome and houses the reverse lights. The rear LED lighting features a dispersed pattern for a seamless lighting effect, unlike other LED systems where individual filaments can be seen.

Grand Cherokee open-air options
The 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee features the CommandView dual-pane sunroof that extends from the windshield to the rear of the vehicle, allowing for perfect views both on- and off-road. CommandView is comprised of two glass panels with the front panel opening rearward providing additional light and fresh air to first-row passengers. The rear panel, which is fixed, allows light and open viewing for second-row passengers. The system comes standard with a power sun shade for those who may not want direct sunlight. CommandView is standard on Overland and Summit models and available on Limited.

A traditional sunroof is available on Laredo and Limited models.

Unique exterior styling for each Grand Cherokee model
Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo models are identified by its body-color grille and chrome headlight treatment. Body-color side mirrors and door handles are also Laredo exclusives. All lower rocker trim is dark gray. Standard wheels are five-spoke 17-inch aluminum wheels painted Tech Silver. Available aluminum 18-inch wheels with a twin five-spoke design are painted Satin Silver. The rear fascia features the new signature tail lamp design along with dark gray lower trim and a single chrome exhaust outlet.

Grand Cherokee Limited models keep the dark gray lower rocker trim and add a body-color grille with chrome grille slot frames and headlight treatment. Bi-xenon headlamps with Grand Cherokee's signature LED running lights are available. Chrome trim outlines the lower fascia opening and skid plate. The wheels on Limited are aluminum 18-inch with a twin five-spoke design and are finished in Satin Chrome. Polished 20-inch five-spoke aluminum wheels with Mineral Gray-painted pockets are optional. The Limited's rear fascia features a chrome trimmed bumper sill protector and dual chrome exhaust outlets.

All Limited (and Overland and Summit) models feature standard chrome side mirrors and door handles.

Grand Cherokee Overland models feature bi-xenon HID headlamps with signature LED daytime running lights, chrome tow hooks in the lower fascia and body-color lower fascia trim. The body-color trim carries over to the wheel arches and surround the polished 20-inch five-spoke polished aluminum wheels with Mineral Gray-painted pockets. The lower rocker panels and trim on the rear fascia also become body color.

The new luxurious Grand Cherokee Summit model tops the range and receives many unique styling cues. The bi-xenon HID signature headlamps are adaptive, and swivel in conjunction with the steering wheel. This improves visibility around bends and turns and is a brand new safety feature for Grand Cherokee. High-pressure headlamp washers are standard.

Tthe best evidence yet of Hyundai's commitment to producing cars in Europe, for Europe - combining the design and engineering expertise of the team at the European R&D centre with the proven manufacturing excellence of the company's Czech factory.

The New Generation Hyundai i30 3-door strengthens Hyundai's presence in one of Europe's most competitive vehicle segments - the segment in which the brand has seen its greatest success since 2007. The new bodystyle contribute to increased sales and, just as important, greater brand awareness and enhanced consumer perceptions of Hyundai in Europe.

New grille, fog lamps and lower bumper at the front are echoed at the rear, while the profile is noticeably more sporty thanks to a sharply raked belt line, more angular glasshouse silhouette and longer front doors. In addition to the existing 17-inch alloy wheels, the New Generation Hyundai i30 3-door also offers exclusive 16-inch alloy wheels and a new orange colour way for the interior trim - including contrasting orange stitching on the steering wheel, gear shift knob, upper dashboard and door armrest - complete the visual transformation for the 3-door model.

The longer front doors - 170 mm longer than the five-door's - not only generate an impression of sportiness, but also provide a wider aperture ahead of the B-pillar, making access to the front seats even easier. Rear seat passengers in the New Generation i30 3-door enjoy plentiful space, with 38 mm more hip room than the five-door and only 21 mm less shoulder room. Other external and internal dimensions are the same as for the five-door model.

Dynamically and in terms of specification, powertrain options and efficiency, the 3-door retains the positive characteristics of the five-door, engaging the driver with Europe-tuned ride and handling, and providing quality, equipment and comfort to make travelling in and owning an i30 a true pleasure.

The highlight of the powertrain range remains the U-II 1,6-litre diesel engine, generating 128 ps while emitting only 97 g/km of CO2 with the Blue Drive package. Together, these figures make for the best power-to-efficiency ratio in the segment.

The in-house developed technologies known from the five-door are also all available, including Hyundai's own six-speed manual and automatic transmissions and its FLEX STEER system with three settings for variable steering assistance depending on driver preference and prevailing conditions.

Fluidic sculpture inspires 3-door's more dynamic design
As with its five-door and wagon siblings, the styling of the New Generation Hyundai i30 3-door was inspired by Hyundai's 'fluidic sculpture' design ethos. This philosophy takes its influences from the flowing lines of nature and modern architecture, and it drives the Hyundai design team to create impactful sculptural vehicles with a shared visual identity.

In the case of the 3-door model, Hyundai has introduced an added dimension of dynamism and a greater sportiness to the New Generation i30, with clear visual distinctions between this and the five-door version.

The most striking difference is the new treatment applied to the mesh insert surrounding the central bar in the middle of Hyundai's signature hexagonal grille at the front, . Both the bar and the mesh are finished in black, accentuating the body-coloured hexagon shape. A new finish for the lower bumper includes a body-coloured section which meets the newly profiled lower edge of the grille. Sited on either side are new-design fog lamps - sportier in concept than the five-door's, with round spots connected to LED daytime running light strips, encased in an angular housing and backed by the same new mesh as is embedded in the grille.

From the side, the already athletic profile of the five-door is enhanced on the 3-door by a more sharply raked beltline that creates a more distinctive glasshouse silhouette. The line rises gradually from the wing mirror then cuts up noticeably in line with the leading edge of the rear wheel arch. With just as angular a treatment for the top edge of the glasshouse, the 3-door presents a sportier look despite retaining the same overall dimensions as the five-door.

The rear's lower bumper area has been remodeled, and includes a new horizontal, sculpted design of fog lamps, contrasting with the upright units of the five-door. Embedded in a more angular-shaped housing, these contribute to the impression of a wider, sportier rear - and this sense is completed by a new black insert at the bottom of the bumper.

With further exclusive styling features, buyers will be able to mark out their 3-door cars from its siblings. These include specifying a unique new design of 16-inch alloy wheel only available on the 3-door. And in the cabin there will be a new orange trim option that fits with the more sporty image of the 3-door, including orange colour stitching on the steering wheel, gear shift knob and door armrest.

Driving fleet growth to a 50% share
Since going on sale in 2007, the original i30 has played an important role in expanding Hyundai's sales and reputation in Europe's fleet sector. In its first months on sale, the New Generation i30 has already proven to be popular with fleet managers and company car drivers, and the introduction of the 3-door model will extend the appeal of the range.

From the sales target of 120.000 units per year, Hyundai forecasts a 50:50 split between the fleet and private sectors.

Hyundai's Five-Year Triple Care will continue to be a valuable point of differentiation for New Generation i30 in a highly competitive class. The five-year warranty has no mileage limit. Roadside assistance is included for five years, and vehicle health checks are performed annually, providing peace of mind for fleet buyers, fleet operators, company car drivers and private motorists.

Compared to the original i30, total cost of ownership for the New Generation i30 model is reduced, helped by improved fuel efficiency, lower CO2emissions and a lower insurance classification, making the i30 family a rational choice for fleets as well as an emotional one.

Generous high-quality equipment 'from the class above'
The quality and generosity of standard specification on the New Generation i30 have been inspired by the high standards established by Hyundai's all-new i40, demonstrating the company's desire to make its technology available to all European motorists. One such example is the heated steering wheel, which debuts on the New Generation Hyundai i30 3-door and is being introduced to the rest of the New Generation i30 range. The 3-door is available with the same standard and optional equipment as the rest of the i30 range.

Features that will appeal to New Generation i30 drivers include 10-way powered driver's seat adjustment, heated front seats, electric parking brake, a Smart Key with engine start/stop button and cruise control with speed limiter function. Enhanced instrumentation with a TFT Supervision Cluster (executed to the same high quality as found on i40) provides a wide range of additional information to the driver in high-resolution clarity.

Located atop the centre stack, the optional navigation system is displayed via a 7-inch touch-screen. The system is a highly sophisticated and convenient GPS tool, offering real-time information, multi-media support and speech recognition in 10 European languages.

New features that enhance the New Generation i30 experience for passengers include dual-zone climate control with automatic defogging function, twin ventilation and heating ducts for rear seat occupants, and a truly panoramic glass sunroof which allows greatly increased natural light to flood the cabin. The sunroof has been designed to open fully or tilt open, offering flexibility and functionality, together with an adjustable full-length shade. Heat-reflecting solar glass is an option for the front, side and rear windows.

New Generation i30's standard equipment also offers buyers LED daytime running lights, front fog lamps, 6-speed manual transmission, 60:40 split folding rear seat, front power windows with driver auto down, four-speaker audio system and a multi-mode trip computer.

Choice of six engines to power New Generation i30

Depending on individual market preferences, the New Generation i30 is available with a choice of six engines - three diesel and three gasoline units - with a broader range of power outputs, from 90 to 135 ps.

More powerful engines top both the diesel and gasoline line-ups delivering 128 ps and 135 ps respectively.

The upgraded diesel engine - the highly-efficient 1,6-litre variable geometry turbo (VGT) 'U-II' unit - is among the most popular powertrains in the line-up. Generating 110 ps at 4.000 rpm and 260 Nm from 1.900 rpm, the upgraded 1.582 cc engine accelerates the New Generation i30 from standstill to 100 km/h in under 11,5 seconds, and goes on to reach a top speed of 185 km/h- yet consumes just 4,0 l/100 km on the official combined cycle or 3,7 l/100 km in cars fitted with the Blue Drive package.

The gasoline engines also offer an excellent balance between performance and economy. The New Generation 1,6-litre 'Gamma' GDI engine features technically advanced 'gasoline direct injection' to maximize power and torque generation while minimizing fuel consumption and emissions. This 1.591 cc unit produces 135 ps at 6.300 rpm and 164 Nm of torque at 4.850 rpm. With this engine, i30 accelerates to 100 km/h in only 9,9 seconds and records consumption of 5,7 l/100 km (combined cycle) or 5,0 l/100 km on models equipped with the Blue Drive package.

Both diesel and gasoline engine types play a significant role in the European C-segment, with diesel representing 58% and gasoline 39% of total sales. Overall, Hyundai is expecting a 50:50 split between sales of diesel- and gasoline-powered variants of New Generation i30 models.

The 2013 Honda Crosstour goes on sale in the US on November 20, 2012, with pricing beginning at $27,230 - a starting MSRP $525 lower than in 2012. Receiving extensive updates, the 2013 Honda Crosstour introduces more purposeful exterior styling, significant upgrades to the interior design and materials, and a more powerful, fuel-efficient Earth Dreams™ V-6 engine coupled to a six-speed automatic transmission with paddle-shift control. The rugged new styling, teamed with class-leading fuel-efficiency and a lower MSRP on the base four-cylinder model make the 2013 Honda Crosstour the smartest choice in a premium mid-size crossover.

Standard equipment on all Crosstour models includes a rearview camera with guidelines, Bluetooth® HandsFreeLink™, USB/iPod® connection, fog lights, one-touch turn signals and an Expanded View Driver's Mirror. The front-wheel-drive Crosstour offers two trim levels (EX, EX-L) available with four-cylinder or V-6 powertrains, with Real Time™ 4WD available on the EX-L V-6 model. Rich new exterior colors for 2013 include Kona Coffee Metallic and Mountain Air Metallic.

The 2013 Crosstour is one of the first Honda models available with the new keyless Smart Entry with Push Button start. The 2013 Crosstour also features Honda's LaneWatch™ blind-spot display, which uses a camera system mounted on the passenger mirror to provide an enhanced rearward view of the passenger-side roadway. Other standard visibility-enhancing features include the rearview camera and new re-shaped rear headrests.

The 2013 Honda Crosstour also receives enhancements on the safety front including available Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Forward Collision Warning (FCW). Other safety upgrades to the 2013 Crosstour are designed to help it earn top IIHS roof-crush safety scores, as well as a 5-Star NCAP rating.

The Powertrain
The two different four-cylinder Honda Crosstour models, the 2-wheel-drive EX and EX-L, are powered by a 2.4-liter, 16-valve DOHC i-VTEC® engine. The four-cylinder models significantly broaden the Crosstour's appeal through a lower price point and EPA-estimated fuel economy rating1 of 22 mpg city, 31 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined. The 4-cylinder engine produces 192 horsepower at 7000 rpm and 162 lb-ft. of torque at 4400 rpm. A technologically advanced 5-speed automatic transmission with Grade Logic Control is standard equipment.

The new available Earth Dreams™ 3.5-liter, 24-valve SOHC i-VTEC® V-6 engine utilizes Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) to maximize efficiency, allowing the engine to run on 3 or 6 cylinders, depending on engine load and speed. For 2013, power output climbs to 278 horsepower at 6200 rpm, a 7-hp gain over the 2012 Honda Crosstour V-6. Peak torque output is now 252 lb-ft. at 4900 rpm with a much wider torque spread. The net result is a more responsive engine across the rev range that drivers use every day, combined with better peak power for quick acceleration, passing, and climbing grades. The Crosstour V-6's new 6-speed automatic transmission also includes new steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.

Fuel efficiency for the V-6 is also significantly improved, with it now achieving an EPA-estimated city/highway/combined fuel economy rating of 20/29/23 mpg on Crosstour 2WD models and 18/28/22 mpg for the Honda Crosstour EX-L with Real Time™ 4WD. Compared to the 2WD 2012 Crosstour V-6, this represents a 2 mpg improvement in city/highway/combined fuel economy.

The Body
The Honda Crosstour has created its own unique crossover SUV identity with a distinctively sleek, sporty and fuel-efficient style. This continues for 2013 with a newly refreshed exterior that provides a more rugged, active, and premium look, while still concealing an accommodating rear cargo area with a large tailgate. An under-floor storage area in the rear of the vehicle adds even more functionality, while reversible floor panels accommodate messy cargo.

Standard exterior features on Crosstour EX include chrome door handles, 17-inch alloy wheels and P225/65R-17 all-season tires. Additional exterior features on the Honda Crosstour EX include auto-on/off projector-beam headlights, a one-touch power moonroof with tilt, body-colored folding power side mirrors with defrost, auto-up/down driver's and front passenger's windows, and rear privacy glass. The top-of-the-line Crosstour EX-L V-6 model adds 18-inch alloy wheels with P225/60R-18 all-season tires.

Chassis
The Crosstour has inspired handling, thanks to its double-wishbone front and independent multi-link rear suspension, front and rear stabilizer bars, and front strut tower bar. All Honda Crosstour models include power-assisted ventilated front and solid rear disc brakes. For true utility-vehicle capability, the Crosstour provides 6.2 inches of maximum ground clearance in addition to the available Real Time™ 4WD system.

Interior
Premium interior styling, appointments and details extend throughout the Crosstour's versatile passenger compartment, which is further improved for 2013 with upgraded interior design and materials. Inside the Honda Crosstour EX are automatic air conditioning with an air-filtration system (dual-zone automatic climate control on EX-L V-6), a 360-watt AM/FM 6-disc audio system with seven speakers, Bluetooth™ HandsFreeLink®, a USB audio interface, steering wheel-mounted cruise, audio and phone controls, an auto day/night dimming rearview mirror, an easy fold-down 60-40 split rear seatback, a hidden removable utility box and more.

Safety
Crosstour safety technology includes the Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure, a Honda-exclusive body design that enhances occupant protection and crash compatibility in frontal collisions. Additional safety equipment on the Honda Crosstour includes Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), anti-lock brakes with electronic brake distribution and brake assist, side curtain airbags with a rollover sensor, driver's and front passenger's side airbags with passenger-side Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS), dual-stage, multiple-threshold front airbags, and active front seat head restraints.

Standard on Crosstour EX-L models is Honda's new Forward Collision Warning (FCW) and Lane Departure Warning (LDW) systems. FCW can alert the driver when a potential collision with another vehicle ahead is detected, where LDW can alert the driver when lane drift is detected without a turn signal in use.

A series of visibility enhancements on the 2013 Crosstour can improve safety by increasing the driver's awareness of other vehicles, pedestrians or other obstacles that are around the Honda Crosstour. The all-new 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 full-size pickup is the most powerful, most advanced and most refined truck in the brand's 110-year history. GMC Sierra's bold new exterior houses one of three all-new EcoTec3 engines, a fully updated cabin with available next-generation IntelliLink connectivity and other features designed for the most discerning truck owners.

In addition to all-new design and technology, the 2014 Sierra boasts the longest list of standard features ever for a full-size GMC pickup. From connectivity solutions, to a standard tie-down system in the rear, to the segment's only standard projector beam headlamps, many premium features are found on each and every all-new Sierra.

New EcoTec3 engines
GMC Sierra's engine portfolio is updated for 2014 with the goal of increased in power, torque and fuel efficiency across the board. There will be a 4.3L V-6, a 5.3L V-8 and a 6.2L V-8 offered, all from a shared EcoTec3 engine family. Each engine features standard direct injection, continuously variable valve timing and Active Fuel Management, which means they seamlessly switch to run on four cylinders during light-load driving to save fuel.

The increased power and efficiency of the new engines are the result of more than 10 million hours of sophisticated computer modeling, more than half of which were used to make the best of the combustion process.

The new 4.3L V-6 EcoTec3 engine will offer improved torque and towing capacity for the six in 10 truck owners who tow.

Today's GMC Sierra offers the best V-8 fuel economy in the industry and the new 5.3L EcoTec3 engine features significant updates intended to make it even more efficient. The available 6.2L V-8 EcoTec3 is engineered to provide outstanding capability.

SAE-certified horsepower and torque ratings and EPA fuel economy estimates for the new Sierra are not yet available, but are expected to be finalized early next year.

With the new engine designs and additional developments, customers should expect GMC Sierra's second-generation Active Fuel Management to be more seamless and capable of operating longer in four-cylinder mode.

All three engines use lightweight aluminum blocks and heads and are mated with durable six-speed automatic transmissions. A "cruise grade braking" feature down-shifts the transmission on downgrades, which is intended to reduce brake wear. V-8 models use new, larger 9.5- and 9.76-inch rear axles with the strength to accommodate the engines' higher output. Final power and torque ratings will be announced later.

Duralife brake rotors and electric power steering
Strong brakes are important for stopping trucks, whether they're full of people, payload or both. The 2014 Sierra features four-wheel disc brakes with Duralife brake rotors, which feature a hardened and strengthened surface to reduce corrosion. Duralife rotors - a GM-exclusive technology - are expected to last twice as long as conventional rotors and provide quieter braking with less vibration.

The 2014 Sierra also uses electric power steering. An electric motor in place of an engine-driven hydraulic pump saves fuel and allows for tuning that's expected to result in a more consistent, crisp steering feel and plenty of assist for parking maneuvers.

The new standard in truck interiors
Premium materials, attention to detail and purposeful technology define GMC Sierra's all-new cabin. New soft-touch materials and available aluminum trim line an interior that's focused on usable and productive space.

Sierra has an upright instrument panel designed for visibility and accessibility. Knobs and buttons are large, legible and within reach. All knobs are coated using a rubber-over-mold technology, so they're easy to grip even through gloves.

A new instrument cluster on all models features six gauges with an available centrally located, 4.2-inch color Driver Information Center with vehicle status information, a trip computer, and other information, like radio and navigation.

A second, high-mounted glove box with a flat floor joins the traditional box below. Each of GMC Sierra's doors has storage crafted to hold most beverage containers and other personal items. Along the center stack and center console are additional cupholders, discreet compartments large enough for most laptop computers, and connectivity options. Sierra is available with a 110-volt outlet, up to five USB ports, four 12-volt outlets and an SD card slot.

Available IntelliLink connectivity uses an available high-definition, fully reconfigurable eight-inch color touchscreen with an intuitive layout and easy-to-read icons that control audio features, a Pandora app, Bluetooth phone features, and available navigation with all-new map displays. Many of the system's features can be controlled by voice command, allowing the driver to keep eyes on the road and hands on the wheel.

GMC Sierra's seats use dual-density foam designed to stay comfortable over long hours and continue to look great after years of use. Leather and cloth will be offered, and Sierra's new high-wear cloth is designed to last longer and resist staining. A spilled drink will bead on the fabric, not soak in. Heated seats are available with cloth seats and standard with leather.

New door and bed configurations
For the first time on Extended Cab models, the 2014 Sierra has new front-hinged rear doors with outside pull handles at the rear, providing improved access in tight parking spaces. Unlike trucks with rear-hinged doors, Sierra's layout allows rear passengers to enter and exit the vehicle with the front doors remaining closed.

Crew Cab customers, who represent more than 60 percent of retail GMC Sierra customers, can choose between two bed lengths; in addition to the current 5-foot, 8-inch box, a new 6-foot, 6-inch box is available. Regular cabs continue to be available with the 6-foot, 6-inch or 8-foot box lengths, while the extended cab will come exclusively with a 6-foot, 6-inch box.

Cargo box innovations
Sierra's rear bumper features standard corner steps that make climbing into the bed easy, regardless of whether the tailgate is up or down. The steps are paired with grips formed into the top of each bed side. Four movable upper tie downs are also standard. They can be placed in nine different locations and can bear a 500-pound (227 kg) load. Available LED cargo lights integrated beneath the bed rails will illuminate the bed when a tonneau cover is in place. The available EZ Lift and Lower tailgate uses an integrated torsion bar and damper to ease lifting and lowering.

Driver Alert Technology
A suite of active safety features will be optional for the 2014 Sierra, including Forward Collision Alert, which uses a forward-facing camera to notify the driver of an imminent collision, and Lane Departure Warning, which uses the same camera to track the truck's position in relation to a road's lane markers.

The camera technology was recently named a "Top Ten Tech Breakthrough of 2012" by Popular Mechanics.

Paired with Forward Collision Alert and Land Departure Warning is GMC's first-ever Driver Alert Seat, which generates vibrating pulse patterns on the left and/or right side of the lower seat cushion bolster to alert the driver of potential dangers, such as an un-signaled lane change or approaching another vehicle too quickly. According to GM research, the seat's vibrations may direct driver attention to the location of a potential collision more quickly and accurately than audible alerts. Drivers have the option of selecting either audible or vibrating alerts.

Quieter, stronger, more aerodynamic
Quietness doesn't only come from factors within the cabin. The 2014 Sierra features new aerodynamic measures that benefit fuel efficiency and reduce wind noise. Updated mirrors that reduce wind turbulence, triple-sealed inlaid doors, as well as roof and tailgate design features all help air flow smoothly quietly over the GMC Sierra. Additional sealing around the grille, headlights and space between the cab and box are also designed to lower drag for the new trucks, along with new aerodynamic spats located in front of the rear wheels.

Updates to Sierra's body and chassis are designed to improve ride and handling, comfort and capability. The fully boxed frame uses high-strength steel and hydroforming to provide more strength and rigidity with less weight. New cab structures incorporate high-strength steel in the A-pillars, B-pillars, roof rails and rocker panels, while ultra-high-strength steel segments of the rocker panels provide added protection for shallow offset crashes.

GMC Sierra's hood is aluminum, saving approximately 17 pounds versus a comparable steel hood. At the rear, a roll-formed box is stronger, lighter and more durable than a traditional stamped steel box.

GMC Sierra uses aluminum for some suspension components for additional rigidity and weight saving, and new lightweight wheels are paired with low-rolling-resistance tires in most applications. The tires, along with new shear-style and redesigned hydraulic cab mounts, are designed to help reduce noise and vibration in the cabin.

Attention to detail
GMC designers approached the exterior of the 2014 Sierra with respect for its predecessors, evolving its familiar shape while adding distinctive details like standard projector headlamps, available LED signature accent lighting and detailed new grilles. All GMC Sierra models have chrome grille surrounds and premium black wheel arch moldings. Different trim levels feature chrome belt moldings, mirror caps and door handles, as well as unique wheel designs and grille details.

Other new features include available front Park Assist, in addition to the rear Park Assist already available, and a sliding rear window with a defroster.

Distinctive All-Terrain model
Sierra All-Terrain has all-new styling for 2014. It includes a unique exterior appearance with a painted grille and less chrome, and is available as an extended cab or crew cab in a limited number of colors.

Standard equipment for GMC Sierra All-Terrain includes the Z71 off-road suspension with monotube Rancho shocks, hill descent control, front recovery hooks, a transfer case shield and unique wheels and tires, along with an automatic locking rear differential that reacts in milliseconds in low-traction situations to improve safety and confidence on wet, snowy or muddy surfaces.

GMC Sierra All Terrain is available exclusively with an ebony interior and with front bucket seats on SLE models. A carbon fiber-look seat accent is standard on SLT models.
