The all-new Ford Ranger Wild trak makes its global debut at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, a sporty compact pick-up that delivers impressive power and safety, excellent fuel efficiency and significant capability. It exudes a powerful presence bolstered by the latest in-car comfort and technologies.

The new global Ford Ranger boasts an extensive range of class-leading "smart" features that make it easier, safer and more fun to drive than ever. It also sports a unique Rear View Camera System - the camera image is displayed in the rear view mirror - which dramatically improves visibility and simplifies hooking up to a trailer.

Aiming to deliver class-leading safety, new Ranger utilises a whole suite of technologies, including Electronic Stability Program (ESP), to keep its wheels sturdily planted on the road under all conditions. Despite being an enormously capable vehicle, the Ford Ranger is also fitted with technologies such as satellite navigation and Bluetooth® voice control, more commonly found on premium or luxury cars.

Building on Ranger's long-standing heritage of capability, the all-new model extends Ford's credibility further, with selected European versions achieving a best-in-class towing capacity of 3350 kg. Ranger models fitted with the 2.2-litre Ford Duratorq TDCi diesel engine also have an outstanding payload capacity of up to 1333 kg.

New from the ground up - with everything changed except its name - new Ranger is the first commercial vehicle to be built under the One Ford strategy as part of a global product programme, bringing together the full engineering expertise of Ford around the world.

Designed and developed in Australia, Ranger will be offered as a complete family of compact pick-ups with three different cab body styles, 4x2 and 4x4 drive trains, two ride heights and up to five series choices to suit every pocket and market. It will be produced in Thailand, South Africa and Argentina for more than 180 markets worldwide.

21st century tough styling
Toned, taut and muscular, the all-new Ranger is designed to look powerful and confident, equally at home on a construction site or outside a high-class restaurant. Its front end features a short overhang with the signature three-bar grille, a global Ford commercial vehicle design cue. The windscreen has also been raked back for a sportier and more dynamic silhouette, creating a modern and aerodynamic look.

The beltline, along with the rails of the load box, were raised significantly - giving Ranger a substantive presence on the road while increasing its functionality with the deeper box. Larger headlamps, bigger mirrors and stamped-in wheel lips provide an integrated look across all series and contribute to an aggressive and sporty stance.

The Wild trak version takes Ranger's sporty appearance even further, with a unique colour split on the front. Designers masked out the feature line on the fascia and contrasted it by highlighting the lower intake. The same accent colours were used on the side mirrors, door handles and side air vents to give the vehicle a dark sporty look.

Sitting high on 18-inch alloy wheels, the Wildtrak also comes with a roof rack and a sports hoop which enhance its profile. Exclusive Wildtrak badging and graphics help to set it apart from other lifestyle vehicles.

Car-like levels of comfort and features
The purposeful interior of the Wildtrak echoes the dark sporty look of the outside. A special hydrographic finish on the centre console around the audio is reminiscent of strong but lightweight materials like carbon fibre.

The seat trim - a combination of leather and woven cloth inspired by sportswear with ventilated sections - provides lateral support and confidence even on rough terrain. Contrast stitching and a discreet strip on the seat upper and bolster, all in distinctive Wildtrak Orange, accentuate the premium feel of the interior.

The cabin of Ranger has been stretched to provide segment-leading spaciousness and comfort. Three passengers can easily fit in the second row of the Wildtrak, for instance. It offers ample knee room and better foot clearance between the B-pillar and the seat. This means that getting in and out of the new Ranger is easier than ever for rear-seat passengers.

With 23 storage spaces in the cabin, Ranger offers more practical stowage than any competitor. A deep centre console bin will keep up to six cans of beverage cool, while the glove box is large enough to accommodate a 16-inch laptop computer. Ample storage for mobile phones and other small items can be found in the console.

Also poised to be a leader in innovation, Ford Ranger Wildtrak comes with Bluetooth® audio streaming, USB and iPod connectivity. There is voice control over the radio, CD, iPod, USB, air-conditioning and phone and the software recognises English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Turkish. It also offers a five-inch colour screen with satellite navigation.

More power, more torque, more economy
European customers will have a choice of two state-of-the-art common-rail Ford Duratorq TDCi diesels and new fuel-efficient six-speed transmissions that serve up more power and torque.

The new 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel delivers peak torque output of 375 Nm and power output of 110 kW (150 PS), whilst a highly responsive and efficient new 3.2-litre 5-cylinder diesel powers the Wildtrak and produces a powerful 470 Nm of torque is power rated at 147 kW (200PS). Both new powertrains have been developed and refined to deliver excellent fuel economy that is among the best in class. Fitted with an 80-litre fuel tank, Ranger is also expected to have one of the longest ranges in its segment.

Transmissions and final drive ratios have been carefully matched to deliver exceptional acceleration, excellent fuel efficiency and a quiet ride.

The new six-speed automatic transmission has been extensively tuned to deliver smooth, quick shifts that are almost imperceptible to the driver, reinforcing new Ranger's car-like refinement. In Normal mode, the calibration focuses on comfort and fuel economy. For sportier driving, a quick flick of the shifter changes the transmission to Performance mode, providing later shift points and giving the driver the option to select gears manually through a forward (downshift) or rearward (upshift) movement.

New Ranger also features smart Ford technologies such as Adaptive Automatic Mode, which adapts gear shifts according to driving style and Grade Control Logic, which automatically downshifts when driving downhill and the brake pedal is depressed. This feature prevents the transmission from changing to a higher gear.

For those who prefer greater involvement, the six-speed manual transmission with its short, car-like shifter, provides crisp and precise shifting matched perfectly to the generous torque output of the new diesels. An upshift indicator in the instrument panel helps coach drivers on the best gearing for optimum fuel economy.

Extensive work has gone into making the new global Ford Ranger more fuel-efficient than ever. Using the same cutting-edge simulation technology as Formula One teams, aerodynamicists performed more than 1,000 full-vehicle aerodynamic simulations to perfect the shape of the vehicle for fuel economy. Using Smart Regenerative Charging, Ranger is the first to be equipped with a battery management system, which controls the alternator so that it shuts off during acceleration and turns on during deceleration. This improves fuel economy as the alternator is not charging the battery all the time as in a typical vehicle.

Advanced safety protection
Though the Euro NCAP testing will not take place until later this year, Ford is forecasting that the new Ranger will be a leader in safety for its segment.

Like all contemporary Ford products, Ranger is engineered to provide comprehensive safety protection, starting with the highly protective body structure utilising high-strength steel throughout to protect occupants in a collision and the all-new frame that manages the brunt of crash energy. Engineers used sophisticated computer modelling to go through more than 9,000 full-vehicle crash simulations before the first prototype vehicle was subjected to a physical crash test.

Standard on all cab styles in Europe for the first time, side curtain airbags deploy from the headliner to provide a protective cushion for the head of occupants in case of a side impact. The curtain is designed to protect both rows of occupants by covering the upper side structure and glass from the A-pillar to the C-pillar. New side airbags available for the front seats also deploy from the side bolster of the seat to protect the thorax from side-impact forces, working in tandem with the front airbags for the driver and front passenger. Knee airbags are also standard across all models.

Other passive safety technologies include three-point safety belts for all seating positions, with pre-tensioners and load limiter for the front seats, as well as Ford BeltMinder technology which helps remind front-seat occupants to wear their belts.

Ranger also uses active safety technologies to help drivers avoid accidents. A key component is the ESP which comes with a full suite of features that make driving the Ranger even safer. The Trailer Sway Control system monitors the behaviour of the tow vehicle and trailer array to sense the advent of trailer sway and apply braking countermeasures to reduce its effects. Adaptive Load Control provides additional stability assurance for drivers dealing with heavy payloads. When driving downhill, Hill Descent Control ensures that the brakes will be applied to control the vehicle at a set speed. Or when stopping on a steep grade, Hill Launch Assist helps the driver to pull his full load away confidently without creeping.

An array of braking technologies work together to ensure the shortest possible stopping distance under all circumstances, such as the Anti-Lock Brake System, Emergency Brake Assist and Electronic Brake Force Distribution which maximises brake force used on the rear wheels as payload changes while maintaining optimal stability. During emergency braking, the hazard lights also come on to warn other motorists.

On top of safety technologies, the new Ranger has been engineered with pedestrian protection features. Technologies that emerged from a global Ford research project on pedestrian-friendly vehicle designs, have now been applied to a pick-up for the first time ever. This includes a "hexageneous" under-bonnet structure to reduce the potential for pedestrian head injuries, and a pedestrian-friendly front bumper design incorporating energy-absorbing materials. Other new Ranger technologies include Rear Park Assist and the Rear View Camera System.

A steadfast companion for adventure
With an all-new chassis frame, front and rear suspension and steering system, the new Ranger promises car-like comfort, reduced steering effort, more precise handling and better on-road stability. Even on narrow city streets, the pick-up's tight turning circle makes it easily manoeuvrable despite sitting on an increased wheelbase.

For those who need a dependable vehicle for off-road adventures, the Wildtrak fits the bill perfectly with a stiffer frame, ground clearance of up to 230 mm and driveline components strategically mounted above the frame rail out of harm's way. The Wildtrak can also go deeper than any other compact pickup, with the ability to wade through up to 800 mm of water - a class-leading feature.

Both automatic and manual four-wheel drive models are equipped with a proven electronically controlled transfer case that allows drivers to shift on the move from 4x2 to 4x4 any time via a switch conveniently located on the console. If extra torque at the wheels or additional downhill braking is needed, low-range gearing can also be enabled. In order to suit various customers' needs, Ranger can be ordered with a wide range of final drive ratios.

The Ranger's ESP system includes off-road logic which recognises when the pick-up is driven on rough roads and modifies the system to ensure the best balance between stability and timeliness of interventions. In 4x4 models, the ESP system can be partially switched off to disable over- and understeer control as well as engine torque reductions, while maintaining the brake intervention traction control. This setting is most suitable when driving through deep sand or extreme mud as vehicle momentum can be maintained whilst maximising available grip. The ESP can be switched to a second setting to further amend the ESP braking intervention that aids the initial pull away in snow and icy conditions.

When the terrain gets really rough and Ranger is in four-wheel drive low gearing, it provides the driver with more control through the accelerator pedal, which becomes damped and less sensitive. This prevents unintentional acceleration due to the bouncing motion of the driver's foot while moving over bumpy terrain.

The Aston Martin DBS Volante makes its debut at the 2009 Geneva Auto Salon. Completing the Aston Martin DBS line-up, the new Volante will afford customers the combination of the DBS's already-established benchmark sports car characteristics with all the thrills of open-air motoring.

Broadening the DBS's character, the Aston Martin DBS Volante will appeal to drivers who wish to combine the excitement of driving a finely-tuned sports car with the invigorating feeling of being open to the elements. This juxtaposition of ultimate performance and openness stirs the senses on any drive whether an exhilarating jaunt on favoured roads or cruising on lengthy journeys. 'Volante', meaning 'moving with light rapidity', perfectly defines the performance potential and the dynamic characteristics of the Aston Martin DBS Volante.

Conceived as a Volante from the outset, Aston Martin engineers opted for a fabric hood to closely follow the silhouette of the DBS coupe and due to its lightweight properties, minimise overall weight gain. Fully retractable in only 14 seconds and at up to speeds of 30 mph (48 km/h), the roof will automatically stow under the newly sculpted tonneau, maintaining the Aston Martin DBS Volante's perfect form - hood up or down.

Power is provided by Aston Martin's hand-built all alloy 6.0-litre V12 engine producing 510 bhp (380 kW / 517 PS), and 570 Nm (420 lb ft) of torque with a top speed of 191 mph (307 km/h) and 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) time of 4.3 seconds. The nature of the V12, and in particular the torque available at all engine speeds, serves to provide effortless driving in all situations.

The Aston Martin's 16th convertible in 95 years, the Aston Martin DBS Volante draws on the marque's extensive experience in designing iconic 'Volantes' and is a 2+2 featuring two occasional rear seats, ideal for young people or extra luggage. In standard specification, the DBS has a rear-mounted six-speed manual gearbox, while an automatic six-speed 'Touchtronic' option is also available. As with the coupe, the Volante is offered with carbon ceramic brakes as standard providing exceptional stopping power. Benefitting from materials derived from the motorsport and aerospace industries, the bonnet, front wings and boot lid are made from carbon fibre all helping to reduce weight.

The Aston Martin DBS Volante also comes with Bang & Olufsen's renowned 'BeoSound DBS' in-car entertainment system, featuring 13 speakers as standard equipment. The BeoSound DBS has been expertly tuned by Bang & Olufsen's Tonmeisters and Aston Martin's acoustic engineers specifically for the Volante resulting in a system that senses when the roof has been retracted and adjusts the sound stage to compensate for extra wind noise, providing an unrivalled automotive audio experience.

Design
Though the DBS was originally conceived as a two-seater sports GT, the potential for a Volante version was always in the minds of the design team. Holding a purposeful stance, the muscular shapes and forms of the DBS have been retained exuding confidence.

Aston Martin's 16th convertible, learning taken from the engineering of previous soft-top cars has resulted in the Aston Martin DBS Volante possessing Aston Martin's quietest and most refined roof system to date. When raised, the fabric roof is insulated with a layer of Thinsulate material relieving cabin noise and protecting the inhabitants from the elements. The hydraulic pump has been cocooned in a noise and vibration enclosure reducing noise when raising and lowering the hood.

The newly choreographed hood has resulted in an opening time of only 14 seconds due to a new five-piston hydraulic pump. The roof effortlessly stows below the newly-sculpted tonneau cover which has been redesigned to enhance the muscular attributes of the Aston Martin DBS Volante. Housing the Roll-Over-Protection-System (ROPS) which deploys two roll bars in the event of the car rolling over, the rear humps lead your eye to the new carbon fibre deck lid which has been re-styled for the Aston Martin DBS Volante. Particular to the DBS, a line flows from the leading edge of the bonnet past the elegantly sloped windscreen flowing into the carbon fibre deck lid and to the rear boot 'flip'.

As with the DBS Coupe, the bonnet, front wings and boot lid are formed from carbon fibre. Preventing the weave protruding the paint finish, Aston Martin employs a patented 'surface veil' technology applying a 200 micron thick layer of epoxy glue to the carbon fibre, before the application of seven layers of paint producing a class A level of finish.

The interior of the DBS represents the epitome of Aston Martin's commitment to using materials honestly, without disguise or embellishment. Lightweight materials are used throughout to save weight; door pulls are made from carbon fibre, for example, and the carpet has been woven with lighter fibres to save valuable kilograms.

The Volante features 2+2 seating as standard. The beautifully leather trimmed rear seats are ideal for younger persons or extra luggage making the Aston Martin DBS Volante a practical everyday sports car.

Delivered as standard with Bang & Olufsen's BeoSound DBS audio system and seamlessly integrated into the Aston Martin DBS Volante's bespoke interior, the system provides the driver and passengers with an unrivalled audio experience. Consisting of 13 individual speakers and Bang & Olufsen's unique Digital Signal Processing system, the system transforms the Aston Martin DBS Volante into an acoustically sophisticated venue, capable of conveying subtle and striking musical dynamics from every source. The BeoSound DBS has been specifically revised for the Aston Martin DBS Volante and senses when the roof is up or retracted and adjusts the sound stage to compensate for wind noise and change in acoustics.

The Bang & Olufsen BeoSound DBS system has been developed exclusively for Aston Martin. The system is acoustically and physically matched to the Aston Martin DBS Volante, with a design that follows the inherent quality and material honesty of the Aston Martin interior. The loudspeaker grilles are finished with smoothly contoured aluminium so as to integrate seamlessly with the fluid lines and curves of the cabin. When the system is turned on, the twin acoustic lens speakers emerge silently and swiftly, adding a touch of theatre and technological panache that is the perfect complement to the Aston Martin DBS Volante.

As with the coupe, the Volante affords customers the prospect of specifying the optional 10-spoke 20" forged aluminium lightweight wheel with diamond-turned surface - available in either silver or graphite finishes. With an overall unsprung mass reduction of 8 kg, the option aids enhanced handling, improved acceleration, and braking performance.

Performance
The need for high-performance stability, handling ability and low kerb weight defined the DBS's form and construction. The Aston Martin DBS Volante is powered by the same 6.0-litre V12 engine at the heart of the DBS which was launched in 2007. Producing 510 bhp (517 PS / 380 kW), peak power is delivered at 6500 rpm and the 570 Nm (420 lb ft) of torque is delivered at 5750 rpm. Tractable at any time, the DBS possesses a 'flat' torque curve providing 85% of the torque from 1500 rpm.

The 3.71:1 (manual) and 3.46:1 (Touchtronic) final drive ratio assures that all the Aston Martin DBS Volante's power is useable, while also enhancing in-gear acceleration.

Adding to the sonorous V12 enhances the aural soundtrack. Special by-pass valves in the exhaust allow a quieter exhaust note at low speeds; at 4000 rpm these open to reduce the pressure in the exhaust system, raising the power output as well as generating a rousing aural accompaniment.

The Aston Martin DBS Volante is available as standard with a rear-mounted 6-speed manual gearbox with gear ratios optimised to extract the very best from the 6.0-litre engine. Providing customers with even greater personalisation capabilities, a 'Touchtronic' 6- speed automatic featuring a torque converter is also available as an option.
Derived from the same ZF transaxle unit that was developed for the Aston Martin DB9, the system has been substantially re-engineered to accommodate the power and performance characteristics of the DBS.

System functionality is consistent with that on the DB9, with 'Park', 'Reverse', 'Neutral' and 'Drive' modes selected via facia mounted controls.

When in 'Drive' mode, pulling either of the leather-trimmed magnesium alloy paddles mounted on the steering column will activate Touchtronic mode, enabling the driver to control gear shifts via the paddles. Touchtronic mode is also accessible directly on engine start-up. Alternatively, the 'Drive' mode can be selected at any time by pressing the 'D' control on the centre console, engaging a fully automatic mode which will select the most appropriate gear for the speed and driving conditions automatically.

The system also includes a 'Sport' mode - activated by a button on the centre console - which engages a more aggressive gear shift strategy as gear changes feel sharper and more forceful, engine speed matching on downshifts is more aggressive and in full automatic mode, upshifts occur at higher speeds. The Sport setting also incorporates a more responsive throttle map to match the high-performance characteristics of the Aston Martin DBS Volante.

Control
Contributing to the class-leading levels of rigidity, the VH-platform (Vertical - Horizontal) upon which all Aston Martins are founded, ensures a dynamically accomplished convertible translating into an exciting and communicative chassis. The VH architecture is a bonded aluminium structure that provides outstanding strength and rigidity. In comparison to its coupe sibling, the Volante retains 75% of the rigidity equating to 20kNm per degree. This has been achieved by rigidly mounting the rear sub frame and optimising the front and rear shear panels. Working together these components contribute to more than 20% of the total torsional rigidity.

Augmenting the Aston Martin DBS Volante's supreme handling characteristics is the near perfect weight distribution - achieved by mounting the 6-speed gearbox at the rear placing 85% of the weight between the front and rear axle.

To take full advantage of its extremely precise and rigid platform, the DBS employs a sophisticated Adaptive Damping System (ADS) which is specifically tuned for the Aston Martin DBS Volante maximising ride comfort. It uses two separate valves to set the dampers to five different positions, allowing instant adjustment of the car's ride and handling characteristics. The ADS automatically alters the suspension settings to ensure the driver has high levels of control at all times, with the ability to respond instantly to different driving conditions. The dampers can be 'softer', with a corresponding improvement in ride quality, or 'firm', providing improved body control for more spirited driving.

The damper settings are determined by an electronic control unit which takes sensor readings from the car's systems, including throttle position, brake position, steering wheel rotation and vehicle speed. This data establishes the prevailing driving conditions and the demands the driver is making on the car.

The Aston Martin DBS Volante's Adaptive Damping System perfectly captures the car's sporting character, ensuring that stiffer dampers are available for better handling and control when the car is being driven enthusiastically, without compromising ride comfort during 'normal' driving conditions. A designated 'Track' mode automatically sets all dampers to their firmest positions, making it ideal for circuit driving. The DBS Volante is fitted with Pirelli P-Zero tyres that have been developed especially for the car.

The Aston Martin DBS Volante also has a revised Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system specifically tuned to the Volante to help maintain maximum traction in challenging driving conditions. In default operation, the DSC is automatically on. Select and press the button for two seconds and DSC 'Track' mode is engaged, raising the threshold at which the system intervenes to allow the experienced driver to explore the car's limits. Hold the button for four seconds and DSC is disengaged entirely.

Carbon Ceramic Matrix (CCM) brakes are featured as standard. Providing shorter stopping distances with excellent resistance to fade in even the most demanding driving conditions, the CCM brakes are some 12.5 kg lighter than a conventional system. This results in reducing the overall weight of the car and, in particular, the unsprung weight and rotational masses, further enhancing the Aston Martin DBS Volante's dynamics.

When setting out on the task of creating a five-door hatch based on the Cruze Saloon, Chevrolet's engineering and design team had to take into account that the customer base for the compact five-door market is very heterogeneous. The result is a car that need not shy comparison with the mainstream competition in Europe.

Featuring a bold, expressive Chevrolet design, the Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback combines a progressively styled passenger cabin and leading interior space with a line-up of efficient petrol and diesel options. In the domain of safety, too, the Cruze delivers a lot of value, with comprehensive safety equipment standard with all models.
All Chevrolet Cruze Hatchbacks will come with enhancements to the interior. Customers will be able to choose from three different trim levels, LS, LT and LTZ.

Sporty profile, lots of space and technical features
The exterior of the Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback evokes movement and kinetic energy. The main design cues which underscore this impression are the fast roofline, the slightly swept, concave shoulder line as well as the headlamps with their pointed, arrow-like housings. The hatchback's proportions, its short front and rear overhangs, and body sides which slope inward when viewed in profile, all reinforce the car's grounded, secure stance.

Like the Cruze Saloon, the hatch has an assertive front appearance created by the horizontally separated radiator grille and the headlamps' twin halogen bulbs. Efficient powertrain options, excellent traction and handling
Under the bonnet, there is a choice of three engines - two petrol units and one diesel. In early 2012, moreover, a new 1.7-litre diesel engine will become available. All engines are four-cylinder units featuring double overhead camshafts, 16 valves and either multi-point fuel injection, or in the case of the diesels, common-rail technology.

Both the 1.6 and the 1.8-litre petrol engines operate using continuous variable cam phasing. The model year 2012 modifications include new intake manifolds on both units. Powertrain engineers furthermore raised the 1.6-litre engine's compression ratio and adjusted the 1.8-litre's engine control calibration.

At 6,200 rpm, the 1.6-litre petrol engine has an output of 124 hp when equipped with a manual transmission. The 1.8-litre engine delivers 141 hp at 6,200 rpm. Its maximum torque is 176 Nm at 3,800 rpm. Both engines return 42.8mpg, with the 1.6-litre unit emitting 153 g/km of CO2 and the 1.8-litre petrol engine producing 155 g/km of CO2.

Being one of the most powerful engines in the compact segment, the 2.0-litre turbo diesel available in the all-new Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback and model year 2011 Cruze Saloons, can count on increased peak firing pressure in the combustion chamber and a chain-driven timing system.

Excellent throttle response, impressive torque of 360 Nm at 1750 rpm and compliance with Euro 5 standards (147 g/km of CO2) are among the key characteristics of this engine. It produces 163 hp at 3,800 rpm, achieving a top speed of 127mph when combined with a manual transmission and requires 8.3 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 60mph. All engines can be combined with either a manual or a six-speed automatic transmission.

Key to the Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback's excellent handling characteristics are its wide track width, the body structure and its advanced suspension system. The Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback has a body-frame-integral (BFI) that is made of high-strength steel and among the most rigid in the segment.

The BFI provides a superior foundation for achieving the nimble, responsive yet relaxed driving that can be experienced in the Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback. It also facilitates measures aimed at dampening noise and vibration.

The McPherson strut front suspension has side-load compensated front strut modules with specially shaped springs. The hydraulic ride bushings effectively absorb road input loads and provide a high degree of ride isolation. The design of the compound crank (torsion beam) rear suspension contributes to a lower centre of gravity and also enables weight savings and consistent wheel-camber control.

Steering is either hydraulically or electrically power-assisted and provides the driver with a solid on-centre feel.

Occupant safety a top priority
Both in terms of the materials used and build quality, the Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback represents a major improvement over Chevrolet's previous compact hatch. The structure of the Cruze Hatchback is close to identical to that of the Cruze Saloon, which achieved a 5-star NCAP safety rating.

A host of electronic systems has been incorporated in order to prevent accidents from happening. In an emergency, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Traction Control System (TCS) and Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) will intervene to help the driver keep his vehicle on track and assist him during challenging braking or acceleration maneouvers.

At the core of the Hatchback's safety architecture lies its body frame integral which consists of a single welded unit made of full-length beams, pressings and box sections. Door-beams of ultra-high strength steels provide excellent protection against side impacts.
The six airbags as well as the five three-point seatbelts are controlled by the car's Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM), a device linked to sensors in the front bumper and the B-pillar. Child safety seats can be secured in compliance with ISOFIX standards.

In order to reduce the risk of injuries to the driver in the event of an accident, a collapsible pedal assembly folds away in moderate-to-severe impacts. Meanwhile, the design of the bonnet provides more space between the bonnet and the engine, which makes direct contact between a pedestrian and the engine block much less likely. The bumper system, too, has been configured to reduce the likelihood of pedestrians sustaining injuries from the vehicle's structural components.

The Exterior Design
With global sales figures for the four-door variant of the Cruze exceeding even the most optimistic estimates in 2009 and 2010, Chevrolet's designers faced the challenging task of coming up with a design for the hatchback version that would match the Saloon's universal appeal.
The result of these efforts is an exterior that is every bit as dynamic as the Saloon's and even sportier. While it shares the four-door's attractive character lines and key design cues, the five-door has a distinctive, fast-back silhouette.

In keeping with Chevrolet's global design language, the Cruze hatchback has a bold, purposeful stance which sets it apart from its competitors. From every angle, its harmonious proportions and aerodynamic refinement appeal to the eye and convey sportiness, stability and a feeling of speed.

A bold, confident look
Designers of the Chevrolet Cruze hatchback adopted the key styling cues that earned them acclaim when the Saloon was unveiled. In fact, from the front, the two cars look exactly the same. The grounded, athletic posture is highlighted by body sides that slope inward as they rise toward the roof. The signature dual-port grille, a trademark on all Chevrolet passenger cars, is separated horizontally by a body-colored crossbar with the bowtie placed in the center. In LS and LT trim, both grille openings are framed in matte chrome.

The grille is flanked by headlamp housings whose upper edges rise sharply to a point along the top of the bumpers. They accommodate twin halogen bulbs that are placed within bright finished pods and covered by clear polycarbonate outer lenses. In conjunction with the piano black background, this arrangement brings a sparkling look to the Cruze's face.

While the bonnet has been carefully sculpted to incorporate the pointed headlamp housings, the lower part of the vehicle's front section includes a trapezoidal air intake as well as outer recesses for optional fog lamps. A fine spoiler lip forms the bottom edge of the front fascia.

Dynamic lines flow into sleek rear section
In profile, an arching roof line and a distinctive concave shoulder line emphasise the car's dynamic posture. The flush-mounted tail light clusters emulate the execution seen in the headlamps, with the upper corners extending into the side of the car body. Two circular shapes in each unit echo Chevrolet's traditional twin light styling motif. The LED diodes in the shelf-mounted rear stop light help to underscore the car's upscale visual credentials.

Uncluttered, clean exterior
All trim levels are characterised by their high build quality and close attention to detail. A major factor contributing to the car's appeal is its unadorned exterior which is devoid of ornaments and highlights the elegance inherent to the fundamental design.

The Chevrolet Cruze hatchback has very tight panel gaps and shut-lines. Door-to-door, door-to-fender, and lamp-to-fascia gaps have been designed to measure 3.0 mm or less.

While two wheel sizes - 16 and 17 inch - are available, the space between wheel arch and tyre will remain the same in either case, thanks to constant wheel/tyre diameters of 670 mm. Compensating wheel offsets ensure that the same wheel/body proportions are maintained when the car is viewed from the front or the rear.

The Radio/CD system offers single disc operation and includes MP3 playback functionality as well as radio digital signaling. Related information and a digital clock appear on the infotainment display. Two front-door installed speakers are standard, up to six can be fitted into the car, depending on the trim level.

The Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback offers leading interior space and, thanks to its flexible rear seats, enables stowage of bulky cargo. Rear head-room is 974 mm, as compared to 963 mm in the salon. Luggage capacity is 413 litres with the seats up - a 150 percent increase over the 275 litres of cargo room available in the previous five-door Chevrolet in this segment, the Lacetti hatchback. The rear seats fold forward in a 60/40 split, enabling pass-through access to the load area and expanding cargo volume to 883 litres.

Seat upholstery consists of two fabrics or genuine leather and is always colour-coded with the mid-instrument panel. Whereas base level seats feature a woven fabric with dull sheen finish, mid-level models use a knit weave on a colour backing for a two-dimensional look.
French seam stitching that has been benchmarked against the best offerings in the world and firm durometer foam contributes to the seats' high-quality appearance and feel.

Practical opportunities to pack away items of various sorts continue to be appreciated by customers, and the Cruze Hatchback offers plenty of them. The large centre console accommodates CDs and has an adjustable dual cup-holder. The new generation Porsche Cayenne will make its world debut at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. Each model in the Porsche Cayenne range is a trend-setter in terms of efficiency and output and, compared with the former models, offers an increase in fuel economy of up to 23 per cent with more performance.

The highlight of the new line-up is the technically sophisticated parallel full hybrid drive-train which combines the sporting performance of an eight-cylinder with the economy of a six-cylinder and a unique 'sailing mode' for even lower fuel consumption.

Lower weight
The selection of materials for optimum weight combined with changes in the overall concept of the Porsche Cayenne - such as a new active and extra-light all-wheel drive transmission - has resulted in the overall weight of the Porsche Cayenne S, for example, being reduced by 180kg. This weight reduction clearly has a very positive effect not only on fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, but also on performance, agility, and handling. Consequently, the breadth of new features and new technologies throughout the Porsche Cayenne ensures that it offers greater driving quality both on- and off-road, together with enhanced safety and passenger comfort.

Greater efficiency
The new Porsche Cayenne has been developed according to the principles of Porsche Intelligent Performance: more power on less fuel, greater efficiency and lower CO2 emissions. Thisphilosophy is manifest in the introduction of a new Tiptronic S eight-speed automatic transmission featuring a wider spread of gear ratios, an Auto Start Stop function, optimised thermal management on the engine and transmission cooling system, on-board network recuperation, and intelligent lightweight construction.

Fresh Exterior Design and High Quality Interior
Overall, the new Cayenne is 48 mm longer than its predecessor. But despite its larger exterior dimensions, the design language of the new generation Porsche Cayenne represents a more compact and dynamic style. The fresh design of the new model integrates the Cayenne into the Porsche range and the sporting character of the Porsche Cayenne is clearly obvious, just as the highlights in the shape and design of the car so typical of Porsche are also clearly defined.

Extra space inside and greater everyday usability is ensured by a 40mm longer wheelbase. The most significant feature within the brand new, high-quality interior is the rising centre console that extends to surround the gearshift selector and which gives the interior the typical Porsche 'cockpit' character. In the rear, the seat bench can move forwards and back by 160mm and the backrest angle has three different position settings.

Range Summary
No less than three of the five versions of the new Porsche Cayenne consume less than ten litres of fuel per 100 km in the New European Driving Cycle, and two models emit fewer than 200 grams of CO2 per km.

Porsche Cayenne
The Porsche Cayenne range starts with the 3.6-litre V6 petrol-engined Cayenne. Power has risen to 300 hp, but fuel consumption has dropped by a fifth - in conjunction with the eight-speed Tiptronic S automatic transmission - to 28.5 mpg Combined (9.9 ltr/100km) on the New European Driving Cycle.

Porsche Cayenne S Hybrid
At 193 g/km, the Porsche Cayenne S Hybrid is not only the cleanest version of the Cayenne with the lowest level of emissions, but also the cleanest Porsche throughout the Company's entire portfolio. The Porsche Cayenne S Hybrid features a 333 hp drive-train that returns fuel consumption of 34.4mpg Combined (8.2 litres/100km) and CO2 emissions of 193 g/km.

In the intelligent interaction of the 3.0-litre supercharged V6 and the electric motor, the Porsche Cayenne S Hybrid focuses on maximum efficiency from the overall powertrain system. Depending on driving conditions, the vehicle reaches this target with either only one drive unit operating independently or with both drive units working together. In this context the 34 kW (47 hp) electric motor is of course the ideal partner for the 333 hp compressor engine with its high torque at low speeds. Together, the two drive units deliver maximum output of 380 hp and peak torque of 580 Nm at just 1,000 rpm, with the same kind of performance as the Porsche Cayenne S with its conventional V8 petrol power unit.

The two drive units are connected to one another by a separator clutch masterminded by the Hybrid Manager computer. This separator clutch is essential to run the Porsche Cayenne S Hybrid either on its electric motor or combustion engine alone, or with both drive units operating together. Thus, under relaxed driving conditions, for example in a residential area, this allows the driver to cover short distances on electric power alone and therefore absolutely free of emissions (and with hardly any noise). Furthermore, it is possible to drive in this mode at speeds of approaching 40 mph (60 km/h).

However, to ensure fast acceleration when setting off, the electric motor may serve to provide additional thrust through its 'boosting' effect. Intelligent management of the separator clutch makes for an inconspicuous transition among the hybrid-specific driving modes, and one which is comfortable and quick for the driver. At the same time, the combustion engine may be completely switched off at speeds of up to 97 mph (156 km/h), being fully disengaged from the drivetrain when no further power is required. In this so-called 'sailing mode', cruising along without power, the drag forces exerted by the combustion engine and their braking effect are eliminated in the interest of lowering resistance and thus further benefitting fuel consumption.
 
The Porsche Cayenne Diesel
The Porsche Cayenne Diesel has a 240 bhp (176 kW) three-litre V6 engine offering 550 Nm of pulling power. In the new car, this powertrain now offers 20 per cent lower fuel consumption, with a Combined mpg of 38.2 (7.4 ltr/100 km), increased from 30.4 mpg (9.3 ltr/100km). Consequently, CO2 emissions are 195 g/km.

The Porsche Cayenne S
The maxim of more power on less fuel is demonstrated by the Porsche Cayenne S, which now features a 400 hp high-torque 4.8-litre V8 petrol engine. With 15 hp more than the prior model combined with greater economy, this new engine offers significantly better performance overall, just like all models in the new generation of the Porsche Cayenne. In particular, fuel consumption is down by 23 per cent, with a Combined mpg of 26.9 (10.5 litres/100km).

The Porsche Cayenne Turbo
Greater efficiency is also an attribute of the Porsche Cayenne Turbo, with its 500 bhp (368 kW) twin-turbocharged 4.8-litre V8 returning 27.6 mpg Combined (11.5 ltr/100 km) in the New European Driving Cycle. This is once again 23 per cent less than its predecessor.

The special leather/textile upholstery is available in a version trimmed in off-black and ceramic light, or in an all-black variant, both with contrasting stitching. The interior also features a special steering wheel, gear selector, sports pedals and floor-mats.

The all-new Volvo S60 and V60 R-Design  introduced in autumn 2010. Their biggest markets are Great Britain, the USA (only the S60 R-Design) and Central Europe.

Even sharper and more exciting Volvo drive
Following in the tracks of the all-new Volvo S60 and V60, Volvo Cars' chassis experts are now taking the next step on the road to car enthusiast paradise.

The result is the Volvo S60 and V60 R-Design - even sportier, even more dynamic and even more exciting.
After developing the all-new S60 and V60, which are Volvo Cars' most dynamic models ever, the chassis team focused on further refining a number of details.

Strut brace gives more direct steering feel
The chassis team fitted what is known as a strut brace under the bonnet, that is to say a bar that ties together the suspension strut towers. This is a classic method of stiffening up the body structure.

Monotube damping at the rear
At the rear the Volvo S60 R-Design and Volvo V60 R-Design feature monotube dampers. Unlike the twin-tube dampers previously used, the monotube system features compression and return damping via the same valve. This gives shorter, faster fluid flow, which in turn means the damper responds more quickly.

Shorter, stiffer springs
The front and rear springs have been shortened by 15 mm to give the car more attitude. What is more, spring stiffness is 15 percent higher compared to the dynamic chassis in the S60 and V60.

Even firmer bushings
The bushings with which the rear dampers are attached to the body are 20 percent stiffer compared with the dynamic chassis in the S60 and V60.

The front tie-blade bushing, that is to say the attachment in the rear of the car, is a massive 400 percent stiffer than before to counteract wheel bouncing and shaking.

The new Corner Traction Control system provides even smoother progress in curves
Just like in the standard versions, the chassis in the S60 and V60 R-Design is backed up by a range of electronic systems that sharpen the sporty driving experience still further.

Corner Traction Control is a new feature that uses torque vectoring to make for smoother cornering. The technology is a further refinement of the DSTC anti-spin system.
When taking a curve, the car's inner wheel is braked so more power is transferred to the outer wheel. This gives the driver a tighter line in the curve, with reduced understeering tendency.

The DSTC (Dynamic Stability and Traction Control) system has several functions that improve driving and safety properties, such as:
  • Advanced Stability Control. With a new gyroscopic roll-angle sensor it is possible to identify any skidding tendency at a very early stage. This means that the anti-spin system can deploy faster and with greater precision. Advanced Stability Control provides a huge improvement in driving properties and in emergency avoidance manoeuvres during dynamic driving involving considerable lateral forces.
  • Engine Drag Control. Prevents the wheels from losing their grip during engine braking on a slippery surface.
  • The DSTC system also has a sports setting that makes it possible for the driver to drive more actively. By disabling the anti-spin function, the car allows more pronounced oversteer.
Wide range of engines, with new petrol and diesel engines
R-Design can be combined with a range of petrol and diesel engines, from an economical DRIVe version producing 115 horsepower to a high-performance turbo version with 304 horsepower. All the engines have been designed to meet high expectations on driving pleasure combined with competitive fuel consumption.
