Toyota RAV4, 2013

  •  Toyota RAV4, 2013

The  Toyota RAV4 2013 crossover SUV made its world debut at the 2012 Los Angeles International Auto Show. Toyota's fourth-generation RAV4, the world's original crossover sport utility vehicle, arrives in early 2013.

With a fuel-efficient four-cylinder engine, new six-speed transmission, two-row seating for five, and a host of available in-cabin technologies, Toyota RAV4 offers a nuanced balance of performance and all-around capability, including class-leading cargo capacity, striking design, class-leading eight standard airbags, and a compelling array of standard features. RAV4 available in three well-equipped grades: LE, XLE and Limited.

Performance, Handling, and Efficiency
For 2013, Toyota RAV4  provide a number of powertrain technologies that help deliver an engaging driving experience. It will feature Toyota's 2.5-liter four-cylinder, which will produce 176 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 172 ft. lbs. of torque at 4,100 rpm. The optional V6 of the previous-generation RAV4  discontinued.

Replacing the previous four-speed automatic a six-speed transmission with Sequential Shift. First and second gear ratios will be optimized for around-town performance. To keep engine revs lower at highway speeds and enhance fuel mileage, fifth and sixth gears will be overdrives.

Toyota RAV4 front-wheel-drive models have received EPA- estimated fuel efficiency ratings of 24 mpg city/31 highway, while all-wheel-drive models are EPA-estimated at 22 mpg city/29 mpg highway. A new Eco mode is designed to promote more efficient driving thus helping to enhance fuel efficiency.

The new RAV4 provide its active owners a more dynamic drive, with new technologies like a Sport Mode with Dynamic Torqu Control AWD, enhancements in suspension performance, and optimized electric power steering. The spring rates have been enhanced, and the shock absorbers have been optimally tuned to help the vehicles handling characteristics.

Toyota RAV4 has a MacPherson strut front suspension, double-wishbone rear suspension and four-wheel disc brakes. The LE will ride on 17-inch steel wheels, XLE will feature 17-inch alloys, and Limited  equipped with 18-inch alloys.

In both front- and all-wheel drive Toyota RAV4's Sport Mode sharpens shift timing, throttle response and steering response. When down shifting the RAV4 six-speed automatic transmission in "S" Mode, engine revs rise with a clearly audible "blip," adding to the driving experience.

In Toyota RAV4 with AWD, Dynamic Torque Control AWD has additional benefits. When turning into and through a corner, power is sent to the rear wheels to help enhance cornering performance, detecting steering angle and lack of yaw rate in Sport Mode (and detecting lack of yaw rate in Normal and Eco Mode).Dynamic Torque Control has three different drive modes: Auto, Lock and Sport. In Auto Mode, RAV4 delivers power primarily to the front wheels under most driving conditions, switching automatically to AWD only when needed. By only engaging the rear axle and delivering power to the rear wheels when needed, Auto Mode helps enhance fuel efficiency and reduce drivetrain wear.

In Lock Mode at lower speeds, Toyota RAV4 essentially has a full-time AWD system with power delivered to all four wheels. At speeds below approximately 25 mph in Lock Mode, up to 50 percent of engine power is sent to the rear wheels, enhancing traction and helping RAV4 "dig" through sandy or muddy conditions. Lock Mode reverts to Auto Mode when vehicle speed passes approximately 25 mph.

As on the front-drive Toyota RAV4's, Sport Mode sharpens shift timing, throttle response, and steering response. In RAV4 with AWD, Sport Mode has additional benefits. It can provide smooth and nearly instantaneous torque transfers between the front and rear wheels to help enhance cornering performance. Under certain conditions, Sport Mode can automatically deliver up to 50 percent of engine power to the rear wheels.

In Sport Mode, the AWD system also can apportion power based on input from the steering angle and yaw rate sensors of the Vehicle Stability Control system. When turning into and through a corner, power is sent to the rear wheels to maximize traction available at each of the four corners of the vehicle. Under braking in a straight line in Sport Mode, power delivery to the rear wheels can be momentarily suspended to best leverage the benefits of ABS and VSC.

Exterior Design & Body Structure
The new Toyota RAV4's design achieves strong proportions while conveying the agile and fun character. Sophisticated and dynamic, the exterior features a progressive silhouette, with a sleek-sloping roofline and an aggressive character line. The new RAV4's interior has a premium, sophisticated look with soft-touch accents and driver-centric controls.

Toyota RAV4 pursues the design goals defined by Toyota President Akio Toyoda, with aggressively sculpted front and rear fenders and boldly proportioned taillights that define RAV4's athletic presence.

In a significant break with its heritage, RAV4 switch from its side-hinged rear door to a convenient roof-hinged liftgate with a space-saver spare tire stored under the cargo floor. Standard on the Limited grade  a one-touch power rear liftgate with driver-selectable memory height settings.

As on other recently introduced Toyotas, RAV4 engineers paid special attention to aerodynamics, the most obvious detail being small vortex generators molded into the taillight cases and near the base of the A-pillars. Less obvious are the aerodynamic undertrays beneath the passenger cabin that help smooth and control airflow.

Following body-engineering principles debuted in the 2012 Camry and 2013 Avalon, RAV4's body structure  include high-strength steel to help achieve several significant goals, including a robust and stiff platform that enhances steering and handling precision, and a body structure that is both strong and light. Toyota RAV4 engineers used several grades of high-strength steel to form key structural components in the roof, rocker sills, floor, engine compartment and door frames. The weight savings were in part invested in sound deadening materials and an acoustic windshield, helping to create a quiet passenger cabin.

The Interior Design & Packaging
The new RAV4's dash panel is driver-centric and asymmetrical, with primary and secondary controls all within easy reach. On the passenger side, the sculpted dash panel creates a sense of airy spaciousness.

Toyota RAV4's dash panel and gauges all feature Clear Blue illumination, which provides crisp visibility in most ambient light conditions, and a unified, coherent appearance at night.

Toyota RAV4 come standard with a manual tilt/telescope steering column, with the LE and XLE featuring a urethane steering wheel. The Limited grade will have a leather-wrapped steering wheel. All RAV4 steering wheels will have controls for audio, Bluetoothâ hands-free phone and audio, and the Multi-Information Display (MID).

All Toyota RAV4's have driver and front passenger seats with high seatbacks and a slim back, enhancing rear-passenger knee room. The RAV4 LE driver's seat is six-way adjustable, including seat height.

The Toyota RAV4 XLE driver and front passenger ride in premium bucket seats with sport bolstering, providing ample support of the lower hips, lower torso and shoulders during cornering. The XLE have premium fabric with French stitching on the seats and portions of the dash panels.

The Limited have the same premium driver and front-passenger bucket seats found in the XLE but  also come equipped with an eight-way power adjustable driver's seat with memory, plus heaters in the front seat bottoms and seatbacks with two temperature settings and driver power lumbar. All RAV4 Limited seats are trimmed in high-quality, breathable SofTex with French stitching. SofTex also covers the center armrest, and portions of the door and dash panels.

All RAV4's feature 60/40 split/fold second-row seats that recline several degrees to enhance passenger comfort.

In contrast to 2013 RAV4's compact exterior dimensions, the cargo area is deeper, larger and easier to access than in the previous generation, with just over 38.4 cu. ft. of cargo capacity behind the rear seats. With rear seats folded, Toyota RAV4 class-leading maximum cargo capacity of 73.3 cu. ft.

Privacy glass, Daytime Running Lights (DRL), cruise control, power side mirrors, power door locks and power windows are standard on all RAV4s. Toyota RAV4 XLE and Limited feature dual-zone automatic climate control, integrated fog lights, power moonroof with sliding sunshade and heated outside mirrors with turn signal indicators.

In-Cabin Technology, Audio
Standard on all RAV4 models is a Display Audio with a 6.1-inch LCD touchscreen. Significant for this market, Toyota RAV4's Display Audio includes a standard backup camera and Bluetooth connectivity. When shifted into reverse, the audio display will show the image of what the backup camera captures. The image will include an overlay of positioning lines representing the parking space and approximate distance to obstacles.

XLE and Limited offer an available GPS Navigation and Entune™ multimedia system with satellite radio and advanced voice recognition. The Limited grade will also offer an available JBL® GreenEdgeÔ Premium Audio with 576-Watts of maximum power, 11 speakers, and GPS Navigation and Entune.

The Limited grade offer an available Blind Spot Monitor system (BSM). It can be turned off with a dashboard switch. When the system detects a vehicle in the adjacent lane, it alerts the driver with a blinking light indicator in the side mirrors. If the turn signal is on when there is a vehicle in the blind spot of the driver's intended lane, the indicator on the corresponding mirror warn the driver with a solid light.

The available Blind Spot Monitor incorporates Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), which uses the Blind Spot Monitor radar sensors at the lower rear bodywork of the vehicle. When backing up, the RCTA senses vehicles approaching from either direction and provides an audible warning combined with a flashing indicator in the appropriate outside mirror.

Safety
All 2013 RAV4s have a class-leading eight standard airbags. Like every Toyota, RAV4 feature the Star Safety System, which includes Traction Control, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Enhanced Vehicle Stability Control, Brake Assist, an Anti-lock Braking System and Smart Stop Technology.

SsangYong SIV-1 Concept, 2013

  •  SsangYong SIV-1 Concept, 2013

SsangYong revealed its SIV-1 (Smart Interface Vehicle) mid-size premium CUV (crossover utility vehicle) concept at the 2013 Geneva International Motor Show. The car is the next iteration of a concept series first seen as the multi interface XIV presented at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. Designed to embody the brand's philosophy of 'Robust, Specialty, Premium', the car will become a strategic model within the SsangYong range.

The design of the SIV-1 is formed through the association of nature's power and dynamism, and represents SsangYong's new design philosophy of 'Nature Born 3 Motion'. This is the central theme of SsangYong's vehicle design language that was first articulated in the XIV concept series.

The source of everything, inspires the brand's design philosophy to touch the hearts of people and to enrich their lives by creating harmony between man, nature and the car. Dignified, dynamic, rhythmical and fluid movements found in nature are the source of inspiration behind SsangYong's refreshing design philosophies, and at Geneva the third of its new design visions will be previewed - 'dynamism', created through energy and power.

Design characteristics
The styling of the SIV-1 concept is informed by the intense and dynamic movements created during nature's most significant moments such as creation through birth.

SsangYong SIV-1 Concept's exterior design embraces the multi-purpose styling cues of the crossover to satisfy the numerous different customer demands for this type of vehicle. It adopts the all-in-one concept of the crossover while incorporating many other design elements of other vehicle types.

Intense character lines in the body and the voluminous rear bumper represent the dynamism found in the birth of life. The wide C pillar separated by the greenhouse style moulding and roof line, hints at a concurrent sensation of speed and robustness to highlight the sportiness of the vehicle. The simple yet bold front, rear and strong, energetic sides embody SsangYong's robust styling. The radiator grille is organically blended with and separated from the headlights, tilting at the vitality of nature. The bold division of the rear defines the car's dynamism by flowing sidelines all the way to the back.

The interior design is spacious and as dynamic as the car's exterior. Understated simplicity is in stark contrast and blends well with the delicate yet strong elements of the vehicle at the same time, creating a new level of user satisfaction. Young, sporty and contemporary sensations are created with the metallic centre fascia, together with state-of-the-art IT devices embracing a futuristic environment. The instrument cluster delivers clear communication to the driver, while echoing a sporty feel via its dynamic graphics. The spacious passenger-friendly interior design challenges the rules of driving experience with features such as the bilaterally symmetrical instrument panel and four independent bucket seats that engender the sporty yet safe spirit of driving you would expect from a sports coupé.

Technology
A nano tube technology-based high function heat coating is applied to increase driving safety and secure perfect driving conditions. An ultra thin heat film coating technology is applied to all window and exterior mirrors to remove frost quickly and ensure good visibility and safety. A glass-heating system also removes window frosting in cold weather in the shortest time possible while maintaining an optimal internal temperature and ideal driving environment.

This car is the realisation of SsangYong's long pursued 'Multi Interface Vehicle' architecture, designed to enrich the lives of people by offering a new concept of a 'venue for communication on the move' by converging a car with new technologies and IT.

Emotional connection with technology manifests itself in the Mobile Auto System which allows mobile communication devices such as smart phones and tablets to be automatically recognised on the car's control screen to operate GPS or music players, while vehicle control is also possible at anytime to create the optimised driving environment before entering the car. The passenger seat can also be synchronised with the same settings as the driver's seat.

Spyker B6 Venator Concept, 2013

  •  Spyker B6 Venator Concept, 2013

The global resurgence of Spyker 2013 as a creator of meticulously built automobiles whose beauty is equaled by their unrivaled craftsmanship. The brand's revival is heralded by the introduction of the Spyker B6 Venator Concept, a unique alternative in the High Luxury Sports sector, at the 83rd Geneva International Motor Show. The Spyker B6 Venator Concept is a compact, 2-door mid-engine sports car that will offer the discerning driver of the highest standards a new choice, delivering a rare combination of heritage, design, performance and exclusivity.

Designed by Victor R. Muller, Chief Executive Officer of Spyker N.V., the Spyker B6 Venator Concept makes a defiantly contemporary statement whilst paying homage to its past, making it instantly recognizable as a Spyker. Highly detailed design, bespoke materials and aviation-inspired elements are a core part of the Spyker DNA. With the announcement of the Spyker B6 Venator Concept, the company once again proves its Latin axiom: "Nulla tenaci invia est via" - "For the tenacious no road is impassable." The name "Venator" is Latin as well, meaning "Hunter" - a nod back to Spyker's "Hunter" fighter aircraft of the early 20th century.

The Spyker B6 Venator Concept will begin production in early 2014 for key markets including Europe, the Middle East, Asia Pacific and India, followed by the US in autumn 2014.

The Spyker B6 Venator Concept is being shown for the first time at the 2013 Geneva International Motor Show alongside the Spyker C8 Aileron that was first introduced at the 2009 Geneva International Motor Show. The design of the Spyker C8 Aileron represented another significant step in the evolution of Spyker, shifting from propeller to turbine inspired design.

The introduction of the Spyker B6 Venator Concept marks the beginning of a new era for the brand, one that will include a significant increase in production led by a management team that has never been stronger. Last year Spyker expanded its global leadership with the appointment of John Walton as Chief Commercial Officer. Together, Muller and Walton are leading a passionate team that is supremely dedicated to creating unique and beautiful high- performance sports luxury cars.

Since the brand's rebirth in 2000, the company has lived its motto - "for the tenacious no road is impassable" - making bold moves to ensure that Spyker will continue to be a viable, no-compromise brand. The company was taken public in 2004 in order to fund product development and growth. After a few bleak years and newfound partnerships, the momentum is all in the right direction. The financial standing of Spyker N.V. is strong, thanks to the recent conversion of all shareholder debt into equity and a €10M share issue to Youngman. The result: in 2012, Spyker N.V. recorded a €125M profit, laying the foundation for brand's global resurgence that is signaled today by the introduction of the Spyker B6 Venator Concept.

Victor R. Muller, Spyker's CEO said, "There is no denying that Spyker went through a very rough period in recent years. However, today we prove the truth of our motto since 1914, 'Nulla tenaci invia est via' - 'For the tenacious no road is impassable.' Our dealer body and prospective clients have been asking us to make a more affordable car for everyday use. The Spyker B6 Venator Concept is that car and more: it is the highlight of our hard work to create a viable future for our company. By offering an exquisite, hand-crafted, exclusive car at a more accessible price point of approximately $125,000 / $150,000, more of those discerning drivers who have aspired to own a Spyker will be able to achieve that dream. Spyker B6 Venator Concept represents our view of the future, the beginning of an exciting new chapter in our history."

Exterior highlights
  •     The trademark radiator grille's mesh is V-shaped, referencing Spyker models of the previous century. The 1903 Spyker logo harkens back to an era when Spyker built racers such as the amazing 60HP.
  •     The aerodynamically shaped glass aircraft canopy extends rearwards to minimize drag, optimizing performance.
  •     The 3D LED rear lights are akin to the iris-type after burners of a jet engine from a modern fighter aircraft.
  •     The brake light has been sculpted into the rear panel design to ensure smooth, flowing design lines.
  •     Elegantly aggressive 19" TurbofanTM wheels are shown in mirror polish finish.

Interior highlights
  •     Interior surroundings crafted from the finest materials are unusually open and airy for a sports car, the light and glass akin to an aeroplane cockpit. The leather is sourced from the Litano range produced by the Royal Hulshof Dutch Tanneries in Lichtenvoorde. Hulshof uses only West European first choice bull hides and a special tanning process that produces the beautifully rich colour palette.
  •     The red cover on the ignition switch evokes the spirit of starting an aeroplane, as does the dashboard that lights up as part of the 'pre-flight check.' The dashboard is shown with a turned aluminium fascia, similar to those seen on Spykers of the 1920s.
  •     Pressing the engine start button brings to life a powerful V6 engine that delivers 375+ bhp.
  •     The trademark exposed gear change mechanism was inspired by early aircraft controls from Spyker's aviation heritage.

Smart forjeremy Concept, 2012

  •  Smart forjeremy Concept, 2012

An electrifying encounter between the internationally renowned fashion designer Jeremy Scott and the smart fortwo electric drive has produced a fascinating smart fortwo. An electric car, ready for lift-off into a new era of mobility - full of lightness and joie de vivre. The unique smart forjeremy has wings - a familiar trademark of the American star designer. The wings light up like igniting rockets to form avant-garde rear lights. The smart forjeremy showcar, which will be launched in 2013 as a limited special edition, was unveiled on the eve of the 2012 LA Auto Show at Jim Henson Studios in Los Angeles, with music provided by the artist M.I.A..

The Wings - the symbol for carefree driving fun
True to form, the cooperation itself was out of the ordinary, smart being the first car brand to permit a fashion designer to make changes to the vehicle's body. As Head of Mercedes-Benz and smart design Gorden Wagener explains: "Cooperations with fashion designers are normally limited to selecting interior materials and interior and exterior colour schemes. With Jeremy Scott, however, we wanted to go one step further and integrated the typical wings as a central design element in the vehicle body. This was quite a challenge, because it was not just a case of creating a showcar, but rather of creating a near-series study with the potential for licensing it for road use in the future."

Wings are one of the recurring design elements used by Jeremy Scott to great effect. Be it sweatshirts, sunglasses or sneakers, winged motifs crop up again and again in his collections. "For me, wings mean freedom, a sense of weightlessness. Because of this, I definitely wanted to have them for the smart electric drive in order to convey the way it frees the environment of noxious emissions and symbolises the new lightness of mobility", explains Jeremy Scott, who, in addition to his fashion collections, also creates unique costumes for pop stars such as Lady Gaga, Madonna, Katy Perry and Rihanna.

The smart forjeremy - an electrifying love story
Within eight months, Jeremy Scott had developed the smart forjeremy together with designers of the "smart Design Division" at the Mercedes-Benz Cars Advanced Design Studios in Carlsbad, California. Gorden Wagener says: "Working with Jeremy was fantastic - he is a veritable fireball of creativity". With the typical stylish design of the smart fortwo to inspire him, the international fashion giant came up with a whole host of visionary ideas.

All of which results in an avant-garde and futuristic smart with loving details based on the overriding wing theme. The smart forjeremy is painted in bright white, against which the chrome-plated tridion cell glistens like a jewel. On either side of the vehicle is a wing made of transparent fibreglass and decorated with rocket-shaped elements that light up red, serving as rear and brake lights. "Transparency was a very important factor for me, since it represents lightness and space", explains the designer.

The vehicle's dynamic, self-assured look is further enhanced by means of wider rear tyres and wider rear wheel arches. The wheel rims are shaped like aeroplane propellers, giving the impression that the electric smart might take off at any minute. With the elegantly curved "eyebrows" above its front headlights, the smart forjeremy conveys both untamed curiosity and unbridled joy. Complementing the tridion cell, the eyebrows are bright chromium plated, as are the top half of the mirror caps and the frame around the radiator grille.

The Luxurious interior - a dream in white
The exclusive and elegant marriage of white and glistening chrome accents is continued in the interior of the vehicle, creating an undeniably luxurious look. Together with interior designers of the "smart Design Division" in Sindelfingen, Jeremy Scott chose fine white nappa leather for the instrument panel, seats and door trim. Whilst the instrument panel features minimalist seams, the seat insert areas and the centre panels in the doors boast extravagant diamond stitching. The gleaming chrome surfaces of the main door trim and typical smart elements such as the closing handles, the side boomerangs of the instrument panel and the characteristic rings on the dashboard instruments form an elegant contrast to the matt white.

Shaped like a jet engine, the bright chromium plated side air inlets complete the wing theme on the exterior. The white steering wheel with two chrome spokes is open at the top, further enhancing the sporty, sweeping impression of lightness.

Exciting and stylish driving fun - without any emissions
The smart forjeremy is based on the current production version of the smart fortwo electric drive. With its 55 kW electric motor the smart fortwo electric drive accelerates from 0-60 km/h in 4.8 seconds (0-60 mph in 11.5 s), and with a maximum speed of 125 km/h (78 mph) driving pleasure is also guaranteed on urban motorways. The 17.6 kWh lithium-ion battery enables the urban two-seater to travel approximately 145 kilometres in city and achieve 122 city miles per gallon gasoline equivalent (MPGe) without producing any local emissions.
