More than 100,000 new Citroën C4 vehicles have rolled of the assembly line since the model was launched one year ago. Following on from this commercial success, the Marque is now extending its C4 range with an original model: the Citroën C4 Aircross. This new vehicle reviews the conventional cues of compact SUV design. By combining style and technological innovation in a single car, the Citroën C4 Aircross is ideally suited to modern lifestyles that introduce a sense of escape into everyday activities. The new body style draws upon the Marque's technological excellence, combining the grip of an off-roader with the ride and driveability of a saloon. Available in 2-wheel and 4-wheel drive versions, depending on the engine, the Citroën C4 Aircross will be launched in the first half of 2012 and will be one of the front-runners in its segment in terms of CO2 emissions.

The styling of the Citroën C4 Aircross draws upon the Marque's DNA, combining the vitality of the other models in the range with the powerful styling of an off-roader.

The distinctive styling includes a front end of horizontal lines with aerodynamic vents at the extremities, accentuating the vehicle's compact appearance. The contours of the bonnet, which is visible from the driver's seat, the wide wheel arches and the reduced overhang all enhance the impression of robustness produced by this unique silhouette.

Close attention went into every detail and each part is designed to combine style and performance. The Citroën C4 Aircross' light signature, visible by day and at night, is formed by the LEDs at the front, which are vertically aligned in the aerodynamic vents. The shape of the large 18-inch wheels and the rear lights, directly inspired by the Hypnos concept car, has been reworked for optimal air flow and reduced CO2 emissions.

The sophisticated design of the Citroën C4 Aircross includes repeater lights in the door mirrors, light guides in the rear lights and a rearview camera built into the chrome trim on the tailgate.

The expressive style draws upon Citroën's distinctive design cues. Seen from the side, the inverted shark fin wing, which also hints at the glass side surfaces of the Hypnos concept car, is decorated with a chrome compass to show that the model is a member of the brand's SUV family.

A smart vehicle with transmission to suit all needs
With its latest-generation four-wheel transmission system, Citroën C4 Aircross boasts perfect roadholding under all conditions. This technology allows the car to be driven permanently in four-wheel drive mode, while the torque is optimally distributed between the front and rear wheels.

Using the single control positioned behind the gear lever, drivers can manually select one of the three transmission modes to meet their needs and their wishes: 2WD for optimal fuel consumption, 4WD,

which automatically distributes the torque between the front and rear axles, or lock mode, which increases the torque transmitted to the rear wheels for more grip under severe conditions.

Standard-setting CO2 emissions
Citroën C4 Aircross fulfils the brand's commitments to environmental protection with its HDi 110 engine, mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox, making this model is one of the front-runners in its segment in terms of CO2 emissions. And the HDi 110 engine will be available with 2WD and 4WD, so that everyone can choose the version that is best suited to their lifestyle.

Right from launch, the Citroën C4 Aircross will also benefit from the performance of the HDi 150 engine (also available with 2WD and 4WD with a 6-speed manual gearbox) and a 115 bhp 1.6i petrol engine (available in a 2WD version with a 5-speed manual gearbox).

Compact, manoeuvrable and a pleasure to drive
With its compact dimensions (4.34m long, 1.79m wide, 1.63m high), the outstandingly manoeuvrable (10.6m turning circle) Citroën C4 Aircross is at home in towns and cities. The comfort of this 5-seater is worthy of a saloon in the next segment up, while the 442-l boot comfortably meets the demands of modern life. The chassis and suspension were specially developed for a drive that is faithful to Citroën's values, offering the ideal compromise between comfort and roadholding.

Eterniti Motors, a new luxury carmaker, makes its public debut at the 2011 Frankfurt IAA, the world's largest automotive motor show, and is previewing a prototype of its first product, the Eterniti Hemera.

Brand Launch and Hemera Preview
When launched in 2012 the Eterniti Hemera will become the world's first Super-SUV, providing new levels of luxury, exclusivity and performance in an SUV to create a new niche. The body of the car shown at Frankfurt closely reflects the final production version, although that have bespoke Eterniti LED headlamps and lenses. All panels are new and made of carbon composite. The interior, which will be almost 100% unique to Eterniti, is in the final stages of prototype testing and will be revealed later in the year.

Eterniti is backed by a group of international investors and is an independent, boutique British marque, uniquely based in London, where it is establishing a hub with not only a showroom but an atelier and a build facility where bespoke vehicles can be created and hand-built on-site to any specification required. The facilities will be completed later this year, followed by further Eterniti-owned showrooms from 2012 in key overseas markets.

The business aims to help satisfy a growing demand for additional luxury and personalised specifications among wealthy car buyers, particularly in major cities, global wealth centres and emerging markets ranging from London to the Asia-Pacific region.

The company's debut vehicle be a first step towards becoming a fully-fledged carmaker but fully reflect the bespoke luxury objective. The Eterniti Hemera will be the first product in a space which Bentley, Maserati and Aston Martin, with the Lagonda brand, have identified for future product. It based on the most dynamic version of VW Group's latest-generation large SUV platform, the best in the industry. At Eterniti it undergo a complete chassis-up rebuild, including a new, re-packaged interior, and the light-weight carbon-composite re-skin. It also have additional engine performance, with the 4.8-litre twin-turbo V8 engine producing over 620bhp for a top speed in excess of 180mph.

The Eterniti Hemera feature a limousine-like rear cabin, including twin electrically-reclining rear seats with heating and cooling, twin iPads with wireless keyboards, and a drinks chiller. This satisfies a specific - and currently unmet - need, particularly in Asian markets, for a car suitable for being chauffeured in as well as driving. Unlike a conventional limousine, an SUV's relatively compact footprint and wheelbase allow it to offer excellent handling and driver appeal, and the ride height and ruggedness are suitable for poor road surfaces which can make limousines and conventional high-performance cars impractical.

Production start early in 2012, with deliveries by the summer. Prices have yet to be confirmed, but around £150,000 for the standard vehicle. Buyers  receive a full, three-year warranty. Warranty and servicing work carried out on-site in London, with collect-and-return and supplemented by a 'flying doctor' service. Customers have access to finance and insurance depending on the market.

People
Although Eterniti is basing its business case around meeting market needs, its people have a passion for cars. The team has extensive experience in retailing some of the most prestigious British and European luxury and high-performance car brands, including Aston Martin, Porsche, Bentley and Ferrari, in markets from the UK to Asia-Pacific. It has further experience in motor sport.

The engineering team is led by Alastair Macqueen, who was responsible for the development of the Jaguar XJ220 supercar to production and has won the Le Mans 24-Hour race three times, with both Jaguar and Bentley. Eterniti also has its own F1 driver, Johnny Herbert, like Macqueen victorious at Le Mans but in addition a winner of three Grands Prix during a ten-year Formula 1 career, including one for the British Stewart team. Johnny have an active involvement in developing Eterniti vehicles as well as serving as an ambassador for the brand. Alastair and Johnny have a long association, having both graduated from the Eddie Jordan stable and then competed together at Bentley. The trim operation is headed by one of the luxury car industry's leading interior trim specialists, who has worked closely with marques including Bentley.

Future
Eterniti has a long-term plan. It  opening an Asia-Pacific hub in Hong Kong in 2012, and showrooms in Tokyo and Taipei are scheduled to open by the end of the year. Representation in China established from 2013. The product plan includes a second Hemera derivative for 2012. Plans for another SUV and a high-performance car which could form the basis of a racing programme are currently being developed.

Right from the start of the project, the technical choices structuring the "A9" project (internal code name of the Peugeot 208) were directed on the basis of the PSA Group's platform 1 to obtain a particularly efficient "architectural performance" in order to obtain a vehicle which is compact, light, spacious and aerodynamic.

Compactness and lightness
The reduced front overhang (- 6 cm compared with the 207) and the shorter rear overhang (- 1 cm) , alongwith the reduced weight of the vehicle, directly benefit improved proportions, agility and everyday practicality (parking, manoeuvres, etc.).

To obtain a maximum reduction in the weight of the vehicle, a true "hunt to eliminate excess weight" took place at the same time to create, overall, a "virtuous spiral", favouring fuel consumption, passive safety and the dynamic performance of the vehicle. Each component designed, each technique used, each part of the vehicle, etc. has been considered with this in mind, by every member of the project team working on the vehicle: aluminium front beam-absorber, size of the front subframe, laser welding of the roof, extensive use of VHSS and UHSS (Very High Strength Steel and Ultra High Strength Steel) panels, soundproofing of the engine at source, etc. Finally, the Peugeot 208 weighs 110 kg less than the 207 with the same 1.4l HDi engine, up to 173 kg less with the entry level petrol engine of comparable power; in short, a feat which allows the Peugeot 208 to start from a weight of 975 kg!

A generous passenger compartment
A wheelbase identical to that of the 207, the adoption of more compact front seat backs and an overall optimisation of the design provide significantly more space in the rear for passengers (+ 5 cm knee room compared with a 207 which already offers good provision) as well as a larger boot: 311 l liquid volume below the rear shelf (285 dm3 VDA standard) and up to 1152 l liquid volume (1076 dm3 VDA standard) when the rear seats are folded.

Note that this latter configuration is obtained very easily as the rear seat backs fold simply, with a single gesture.

Optimised aerodynamics
The dimensions of the Peugeot 208, in particular the width (-2 cm) and the height (-1 cm compared with the 207), its volumes which have been designed with particular attention, the care given to each of its parts (shields under the body, spoiler on certain versions, etc.) permit maximum optimisation of its aerodynamics. So, the best versions have a CdA of 0.61 (Cd of 0.29), which positions it among the best in its segment and which, again, favours fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

Stylistic re-generation
"Agile, sensuous, athletic, intuitive, concentrated energy, generation jump"... these words were included in the specification of the A9 project and the stylists have succeeded in giving them meaning, coherence and illustrating them from volumes predisposing them to inspiration. From a compact silhouette, reduced overhangs, fluid lines between bonnet and windscreen pillar,... the aesthetic codes of the Marque have been re-invented, both in their main characteristics and in every detail.

A very charismatic front face
The front face, a true genetic signature, unveils a new, particularly charismatic face of the Marque. Its feline expression is more modern, rich and refined, with, in particular (according to version), LEDs and a light guide emphasising the expression of the headlamp unit, both day and night. The same care is given to each part, such as the treatment given to the foglamp surrounds.

As for the grille, this is modelled as a true floating sculpture. In fact, it appears to detach itself from the bodywork and float in the air, with its chrome surround of precisely formed sections. Inside it, a full and technological mesh, or chrome bars, reinforce the modernity and richness of the line. With this original design, it successfully expresses the idea of environmental efficiency: the optimised size of the air intake in fact suggests optimisation of its fuel consumption.

Finally, the front shows itself to be both strong and alive, soft and thoroughbred, technological and cheerful, natural and sophisticated.

Overall coherence of the design
The volume of the vehicle appears sculpted by the wind. From the "PEUGEOT" lettering machined in the block at the top of the grille issues a veritable spine which crosses the bonnet, bites into the top of the windscreen, leaves its mark in the centre of the roof and imprints its movement right to the rear and the line of the boot aperture. The rear lamps, true technological adornments, also incorporate a light signature with, notably, three illuminated claws. With their boomerang shape, and this is a technical feat, they appear at one with the body.

Two differentiated body types
The muscular sculpted body sides offer an identity, a posture which is very different in the 3-door and 5-door body types. The doors of this latter appear to be crossed by a "nerve" running from the rear lamps towards the front. On the top-of-the-range versions, the glazing is entirely surrounded with chrome, a feature never seen before in the segment. The profile of the 3-door is much more sculpted, hollowed out, in the image of the SR1 concept car (presented in January 2010 and chronologically designed alongside the 208). Another detail on this, the shape and movement of the quarter panel look at a glance like that of the 205, another iconic Peugeot.

Completely re-thought instruments and controls
Sometimes, things are noticed that seem intangible. A hatchback has 4 wheels, a steering wheel... and through this we read the instrument panel. The history of the motor vehicle, technical developments, habits,... have established this as fact.

Then one day someone has an idea.
What if, to make manoeuvring easier and increase driving sensations, the diameter of the steering wheel were reduced? And what if, to make it easier to read the information on the instrument panel and increase comfort and safety by eliminating the need for the driver to take his eyes off the road, the position of the instrument panel were raised?

Here again, the Peugeot 208 does not undergo development: It breaks the established codes to offer new driving ergonomics, clear, natural, benefiting ease of driving, manoeuvrability, precision,... a more intimate relationship with the vehicle, the feeling of being at one with it.

The numerous people who have tested it, in all situations, are won over by the agility that the vehicle offers, a promise of practicality for everyday manoeuvres. Some drivers see in it a stimulating and interactive environment, others find more sporty attributes, with a more sensitive position, and an ease and precision of involvement passed down in certain situations.

The touch screen: intuitive connectivity
In keeping with its time, consistent with the new ergonomics of its instruments and controls, the Peugeot 208 will offer the majority of its customers, that is from the 2nd level of the range (i.e. approximately 80% of the mix!) a large 7" colour touch screen with carefully designed graphics (resolution 800 x 480) and intuitive operation.

It allows easy access to the various functions: radio, Bluetooth hands-free kit or playing music files via a USB connection or audio streaming.

The screen adopts a semi-floating style as the designers wanted to highlight it in a way which is very enhancing. It is positioned prominently, within easy reach and at eye level, for maximum safety, comfort and harmony with the other components of the dashboard.

Access to reasonably priced navigation
This graphic touch interface is pre-equipped for the navigation option with map of Europe. And this is available at a reasonable price, less than 500 euros, placing it in a very competitive position in the motor vehicle domain of on-board navigation systems.

A pure, contemporary and refined interior ambiance
The instruments and controls, which have been re-thought structurally, have provided a previously unheard of field of expression for the stylists.

The design of the dashboard blends style lines which are both floating and graphic. Concern for perceived quality can be seen everywhere, the obsessive attention to detail, like the vents at the end of the dashboard in the shape of a cat's eye, the numerous "faceted" components echoing certain sections of the exterior style (grille, roof, cut-out of the boot...)... everything has been thought about and re-thought, from the shape of the door trim pads to the gear lever.

The grouping of all the audio controls on the touch screen also permits simplification of the "manmachine" interface with a significant reduction in the number of buttons and controls, favouring a pure and modern design.

Ambiance lighting, decorations... attention to detail
The interior of the instrument panel has been given a very technological treatment, with analogue dials as a reference to precision mechanics, a digital screen on which the speed is always clearly visible and back-lighting effects giving the whole purity and elegance.

Furthermore, the light ambiance has been paid particular attention by the stylists with predominantly white lighting, very top-of-the-range, particularly for the displays, or LEDs with a bluish light outlining the glass panoramic roof at night, if fitted on the vehicle, with a "comet" effect (varying shades of blue).

The decorations are also very elaborate and available according to ambiance and range level. Lacquered black on the front panel, decorations of varying shades of black/blue or dark chrome on the door crossbars,... a range with numerous personalities which are always in a contemporary and refined ambiance.

An interior offering day-to-day practicality
This interior offers no less day-to-day practicality as a result, with numerous well-thought-out storage compartments, such as the deep compartment situated in front of the gear lever which can be used for cans or as an area for a Smartphone, or the generous door pockets, etc.

Well-designed acoustics
This ambiance is also particularly well designed in terms of acoustics and vibration comfort. Following the example of the work carried out on the 508, by tracking the noise to the source (acoustic "encapsulation" of the power trains), the silence on board has been significantly improved compared with the 207, while at the same time contributing to reducing the weight of the vehicle.

Finally, the atmosphere of the passenger compartment is in harmony with the rest of the vehicle: simple and sophisticated, technological and intuitive, modern and high quality.

A range of high-performance power trains
The weight, the aerodynamics, the very low and ultra low rolling resistance tyres and, of course, the expertise and technological innovation of the Group in the engine domain are factors which allow the 208 range to move to a new level in the CO2 performance of a vehicle of the Marque. The efficiency of the HDi PEF diesel engines and the VTi and THP petrol engines, reinforced by the arrival of a new generation of 3-cylinder petrol engines, in fact contributes to the reduction of 34 g/km in the average emissions of CO2 of the Peugeot 208 range compared with the launch range of the 207, and a difference of up to 46 g for the entry-level petrol engine. So, the 208 is aiming to take up the position of leader in its segment.

An extended e-HDi range
After its launch of the 508 and the new 308 in 2011, the 208 will benefit from the e-HDi technology on 4 of its 5 diesel power trains. Fast, effective and silent, this new generation Stop&Start system permits the combining of reduced fuel consumption and emissions of CO2 (up to -15% in town) with maximum pleasure of use, thanks to the stopping of the engine and almost instantaneous restarting, without any noise or vibration. So, with the Peugeot 208 this technology, widely acclaimed at its launch, is made accessible to the maximum number of customers, favouring their day-to-day fuel consumption and driving pleasure.

New generation of 3-cylinder engines
A new stage in the Group's downsizing strategy, this new generation of engine block permits a true breakthrough in terms of fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, while offering a good level of performance for the "entry-level" versions.

Designed by the PSA Peugeot Citroën Group and produced at its Trémery factory in France, the 1.0 l and 1.2 l VTi versions will allow the 208 to offer petrol versions at 99 g/km and 104 g/km of CO2. These normally aspirated indirect injection engines have respective maximum powers of 50 and 60 kW (68 and 82 hp) at 6,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 95 and 118 Nm at 3,000 and 2,750 rpm respectively. This block is designed to be both very compact and light, with an aluminium alloy cylinder block and cylinder head, the exhaust manifold integrated in the cylinder head... It also benefits from numerous technological features such as the variable valve timing system (VVT) on the inlet and exhaust camshafts or the variable capacity oil pump.

A new stage in eco-design
Eco-design is another area in which the Peugeot 208 had to prove itself a pioneer. With the integration of 25% "green materials" out of the 170 kg of polymers (excluding rubber) present on the vehicle (compared with 7% on the 207), the 208 enters a new stage in terms of ecodesign. In particular, it has an entirely recycled rear bumper, which is a world first for these materials, until now used only for concealed parts, as well as a radiator frame and fan which are also entirely recycled.

This type of bumper, alone, will allow a saving of 1600 tonnes of oil in a year. These green materials also make up numerous parts or functions of the vehicle (wheel arch interior, rear bumper, soundproofing, boot mat, steering wheel, seats, engine cover, air filter, etc.).

A low consumption and ultra-efficient version
Pulling together the very essence of the A9 project by reviewing every aspect of design, the low consumption version achieves an aerodynamic performance (Cx de 0,29 ) thanks to the optimisation of air flows : front grill, rear spoiler, low air resistant wheel trims, ultra-low resistance tyres, deflector. In this way, with the 1.4 l e-HDi FAP 50 kW (68 ch) linked to a 5 speed gearbox, CO2 emissions are limited to 87 g/km, which corresponds to a combined consumption of 3,4 l/100km (83.1mpg).

This version demonstrates its performance with specific components being perfectly integrated in the style and sought-after appearance : front grill in Manhattan satin paint finish with chrome edging, black gloss rear spoiler, two tone alloys.

According to the level of finish chosen (Access or Active) this version can be equiped with a number of fittings : touch screen, panoramic glass roof, 15" Alloy Wheels, rear parking sensors, metallic paint, etc.

Road-holding: the Marque's expertise
The Peugeot Marque has demonstrated the full extent of its expertise in developing a new combination, at a very high level as regards the road-holding of its Peugeot 208, in order to carry forward and enrich the idea of driving pleasure, while adapting it to the expectations of today's customers.

So, the aim of establishing it as a benchmark in its segment led to the wish to retain the acknowledged stability and dynamism of the 207 but without compromising on comfort.

Served by its pseudo-MacPherson front suspension, its deformable crossmember rear suspension, the excellence of its spring-damper assemblies and the fine-tuning by the Lion's experts in this area, the road-holding of the 208 also benefits from the efforts to reduce weight to gain as much in terms of dynamism as in comfort.

This combination is also adapted to the performance of the vehicle's various engines to offer coherent and progressive range steps, in line with customer expectations.

So, on the Peugeot 208 1.6 l THP with 115 kW (156 hp) available in summer 2012, the front subframe is reinforced to offer rigidity and guidance for the front suspension in line with the performance potential of its engine.

Adapted braking, ESP as standard
The braking system is in line with the performance of the engines. The 208 is fitted with front brake discs in 2 different sizes: 266 x 22 mm and 302 x 26 mm for the 1.6 l THP 115 kW (156 hp) version. At the rear, the range is fitted with 249 x 9 mm discs or 8" drums for the 3 cylinder petrol engines, the 1.4 l HDi PEF and the 1.4 l e-HDi PEF.

Another notable fact for a vehicle, all 208s are fitted with ESP as standard of the new generation in Europe, including ASR (traction control), CDS (stability control), EBA (emergency braking assistance) and EBFD (electronic brake force distribution). This ESP can be disconnected by the driver on the Peugeot 208 1.6 l THP 115kW (156 hp).

Renewed sensations, thanks to an innovative design and equipment
The 208 also succeeds in renewing the driving pleasure of its driver through these new instruments and controls. With its small steering wheel, but also its instrument panel placed in a high position and its large colour touch screen, the 208 offers its user an entirely new driving experience. Its ergonomics provide sensations of manoeuvrability and agility at low speed in particular.

These indicative sensations are served by its electric power steering. A new "brushless type" steering system, developed on the vehicle to take into account its new combination in terms of balance and weight. As on the 207, the steering has to conform to the expertise of the Marque: precise and informative, while being particularly manoeuvrable at low speeds.

At the end of 2012, the Peugeot 208 will acquire further equipment, rare in the B segment, also making the driver's daily life in town considerably easier: the Park Assist function. When a parallel parking space is identified, the system manoeuvres the steering automatically to park the vehicle without any assistance from the driver who simply has to control the accelerator and brake pedals. Magic!

According to version, the 208 may also be equipped with static directional lighting which optimises lateral visibility at low speed (below 25 mph [40 km/h]) in urban conditions, at intersections, during parking manoeuvres, on winding roads, etc. In fact, the light beam from one of the two foglamps lights the inside of the corresponding turn, according to the angle of the steering wheel and the pressing of the direction indicator.

Primary, secondary and tertiary safety of the highest level

The inline 6-cylinder engine (N55HP) in the new BMW 640i Gran Coupe will impress performance-minded drivers with its effortless power, exceptionally fast-revving temperament, outstanding refinement and exceptional fuel efficiency. The N55 has been setting standards from the start, as the pioneer of a new generation of engines in which BMW TwinPower Turbo technology with High Precision Direct Injection and VALVETRONIC variable valve timing plus a twin scroll turbo made its debut.

Thanks to intensive fine-tuning of the engine, BMW's engineers have managed to extract additional performance from the engine while maintaining its exceptional fuel efficiency. With a maximum power rating of 225 kW/315 hp at 5,800 to 6,000 rpm, the 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine reflects the sporty personality of the BMW 640i Gran Coupe and helps this automobile deliver brilliant performance. The high peak torque of 330 lb-ft, on stream between 1,300 and 4,500 rpm, ensures that the power is effortlessly and instantly delivered.

As a result, the 640i Gran Coupe can show off its prowess with a 0 to 62 mph (0-100km/h) sprint time of just 5.4 seconds. Top speed is electronically governed at 155 mph (250 km/h). All this extra performance comes with exceptional fuel economy and low emission figures. Fuel consumption in the EU test cycle is rated at 7.8 l/100km (30.1 mpg). EPA fuel economy ratings will be available closer to the on-sale date in the USA.

BMW's widely lauded TwinPower Turbo V-8 engine is updated with more performance and more efficiency in the 650i Gran Coupe.

The 4.4-liter V-8 engine (N63) that powers the current 650i models receives an upgrade for the new 650i Gran Coupe. The unique "reverse-flow" engine, whose two turbochargers are positioned in the V-area between the cylinder banks is well known for producing an instantaneous and sustained wave of power, making it a delight for the enthusiast driver. This new version of the engine adds BMW's VALVETRONIC variable valve timing to the list of specifications. As a result, the new version of the engine (N63Tü) develops a maximum 445 hp between 5,500 and 6,000 rpm (a 45 hp increase), and makes peak torque of 480 lb-ft between 2,000 and 4,500 rpm (a 30 lbs-ft increase).

The new BMW 650i Gran Coupe completes the sprint from 0 to 62 mph (0 to 100km/h) in 4.6 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph. This engine also boasts extraordinary efficiency for a model in its output class. Its average fuel consumption lies between 8.6 and 8.8 l/100km (26.7-27.3 mpg), (provisional figures according to EU test cycle depending on tire options). EPA fuel economy ratings will be available closer to the on-sale date in summer 2012.

When the V8 is combined with the xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system, its power is converted into even more intense and dynamic acceleration. The electronically controlled power split between the front and rear wheels optimizes not only traction and stability, whatever the weather and road surface conditions may be, but also the agility of the Gran Coupe 650i xDrive Gran Coupe, whose sprint time from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) is just 4.5 seconds.

8-speed Sport Automatic Transmission.
The 8-speed Sport Automatic transmission in the new BMW 6-Series Gran Coupe boasts a perfect combination of speed, flexibility, sportiness, and efficiency. What sets it apart are its minimal torque converter slip and rapid gear changes. An innovative gear set configuration allows this transmission to offer eight gears, maximizing acceleration at any road speed, yet allowing the driver to conserve fuel by cruising at low revs. Befitting the Gran Coupe's sporting character, the driver can choose to select gears manually via shift paddles on the standard Sport leather steering wheel.

In addition to the efficiency of the engine and 8-speed Sport Automatic transmission, an extensive range of BMW EfficientDynamics measures contribute to reducing fuel consumption and emissions. Brake Energy Regeneration, engine Auto Start-Stop, on-demand operation of ancillary components, intelligent lightweight construction and extensive aerodynamic refinement collaborate to ensure maximum efficiency.

Chassis Management and optional Integral Active Steering.
Cutting-edge chassis technology gives the new BMW 6-Series Gran Coupe the tools to provide both sporty handling and exceptional comfort. The double wishbone front axle and the multi-link rear axle are made predominantly from aluminum. The chassis is geared to the requirements of drivers with sporting intentions, although the dampers also respond sensitively to bumps in the road surface under high lateral acceleration. The optional Active Roll Stabilization combines with the standard Dynamic Damper Control to offer the driver even more precise responses and perfectly flat cornering ability. The electronically controlled shock absorbers adapt to the road surface and the driver's style to perfectly control the car's body motions.

The electronically controlled damper system in the new BMW 6-Series Gran Coupe adjusts compression and rebound settings continuously and independently. For example, a stiff chassis setting can be combined with comfortable responses to unevenness in the road surface. The control unit of the damping system processes the data supplied by sensors on the vertical motion of the wheels as well as the ride height of the car. The driving speed and the damper setting chosen by the driver are also taken into account in calculating the damping force required for each individual wheel to even out body movements. This data is fed back to the shock-absorber units at intervals of just 2.5 milliseconds.

The optional Active Roll Stabilization feature reduces body roll in corners and in sudden changes of direction, or transitions. Sensors calculate the amount of body roll based on the driving situation at hand, and this is then counteracted quickly and precisely by hydraulic rotary actuators in the front and rear anti-roll bars. The result is flatter cornering inspiring greater confidence for the driver as well as greater comfort for the passengers during spirited drives. The power steering features standard Servotronic vehicle-speed sensitive assistance, and serves up the familiar BMW recipe of precision, comfort and linear response.

The Gran Coupe is also available with Integral Active Steering. This system (also available on the 6-Series Coupe and Convertible) combines the Active Steering system for the front axle with a steerable rear axle. Precisely harmonized steering angle movements at both axles create a virtual lengthening or shortening of the vehicle's wheelbase, which fosters both greater high-speed stability and enhanced maneuverability for parking and city use.

Brakes, Wheels, and Tires.
The lightweight floating-caliper brakes feature vented discs and Dynamic Stability Control. DSC brings together technology such as the Anti-lock Braking System, Dynamic Traction Control, Cornering Brake Control, Dynamic Brake Control, the Start-off Assistant, the automatic Brake Drying function and Brake Fade Compensation. Standard equipment also includes 8.0 x18-inch light-alloy wheels, with all-season runflat tires (size 245/45 R18) and a tire pressure monitoring system.

Driving Dynamics Control with ECO PRO mode: Extra-sporty to the most fuel-efficient driving modes - at the press of a button.

The new 6-Series Gran Coupe offers impressive driving dynamics combined with new standards of comfort in the premium segment. This is a result of superbly tuned suspension which achieves an astonishing balance between dynamics and comfort. On top of this, drivers are also able to vary the overall character of the car depending on the driving situation or to suit their personal preferences. As well as sportier or more comfortable drive settings, they can also opt for extra fuel efficiency. The different modes are selected using the new Driving Dynamics Control function including ECO PRO mode, which is standard on all 6-Series models. The driver can choose settings of COMFORT+, COMFORT, SPORT, SPORT+ and ECO PRO modes using the large rocker switch on the center console. Affected parameters include the tuning of the throttle response, power steering boost assistance, shock absorbers, automatic transmission shift characteristics and - if equipped - roll stabilization and Integral Active Steering. In SPORT+ mode, the Dynamic Traction Control mode of the standard Dynamic Stability Control system is activated, raising the thresholds for stability intervention in the most sport-oriented driving circumstances.

The new ECO PRO mode, meanwhile, supports an extra-efficient and economy-conscious driving style. It does this by changing the accelerator mapping so that the same pedal travel delivers less power than in the standard mode. Also in this mode, the automatic transmission control strategy is modified so as to upshift sooner and to delay downshifts, while intelligent energy and climate management reduces the mechanical power consumption and also the consumption of electrical systems such as heated mirrors and seats. But the biggest potential for improving fuel economy comes from the driver's own personal driving habits. Special displays in the instrument cluster let the driver know by how much the driving range is being extended, show fuel consumption history, or, with reference to the specific driving situation, provide tips and incentives on how to develop a more economy-conscious driving style. ECO PRO mode allows average fuel consumption to be reduced by up to 20%, with a corresponding increase in driving range.

Design: Athletic elegance, natural sportiness.
The new BMW 6-Series Gran Coupe again heralds the arrival of an exceptionally sporty and exclusive 4-seater in the premium coupe segment. The new model's extra length and width over its 2 door model combine with its low height (2.8 inches lower than a 5-Series) to produce a strikingly low-set and powerful design. This new interpretation of the traditional BMW Coupe proportions is embellished by lines and surfaces inspired by the movement of waves. Flowing lines and harmonious curves create a feeling of athletic grace which underline the opulent character and elegant appearance of the four-door BMW.

The expressive front end is dominated by the large and slightly forward-slanting BMW kidney grille. The grille emphasizes the car's sporting pedigree with a broad, flat design, and creates a visual connection with the engine nestling behind. The kidney grille slats, angled slightly towards the top, lend additional emphasis to the front end's "shark nose" character. The contour lines of the hood converge towards the kidney grille, forming a V-shape which is continued by the contours of the headlights, kidney and wide air intake to give a road-focused look.

Powerfully flared wheel arches and the LED foglamps, placed well to the outside, accentuate the width of the front end. The lower air intake is split into three sections by model-specific L-shaped electroplated bars, which pick up the contours of the hood lines and BMW kidney grille to add extra intensity to the road-focused stance of the front end.

High-visibility innovation: Adaptive LED Headlights.
The new Gran Coupe is equipped with Adaptive Xenon headlights as standard. An accentuating trim element cuts across the top of the hallmark BMW twin round headlights to produce the purposeful look familiar from other BMW models. The optional Adaptive LED Headlights provide a fresh take on this established feature. The Adaptive LED Headlights for low beam and high beam contain LED light rings for the parking lights and daytime running lights, which are flattened on the lower edge and overlapped at their top edge by an accent light - also featuring LEDs. The result is a stunning, distinctively BMW showcase for the innovative light technology. In addition, they also generate the low beam and high beam light from the two light rings. The light sources are horizontal LED ribs positioned in the center of the light rings. The brand's hallmark twin round headlight look is therefore expressed even more strikingly - not only with the daytime running lights switched on, but also when the headlights are activated in the dark.

However, the Adaptive LED Headlights are about more than just looking good; they also ensure the driver has optimum visibility. Their bright white light provides a bright and even illumination of the road ahead. From a color perspective, the light comes much closer to natural daylight than that created by conventional halogen or xenon headlights, lending even reflective objects far greater contrast. The cornering element of the Adaptive LED Headlights is also tailored to the car's speed, steering angle and yaw rate, allowing the pivot of the headlights to adapt automatically to the line of the corner. Meanwhile, a light source positioned specially in the headlight housing generates the cornering light which, at low speeds, ensures illumination of the road surface in the direction the car is turning. LED technology is also deployed for the turn signal indicators, each of which consists of eight LED units arranged in a row underneath the light rings. As well as enhancing visibility in the dark, the Adaptive LED Headlights also significantly improve the signaling effect of the car's lights.

With its long, powerfully contoured hood, set-back passenger compartment, long wheelbase and short overhangs, the BMW 6-Series Gran Coupe presents a fresh take on the hallmark BMW proportions. The Gran Coupe's distinctive appearance is dominated by its four-door layout, longer wheelbase than other BMW 6-Series models and likewise longer passenger compartment. The low, elegantly stretched roof line, which flows smoothly into the rear end, is a similarly eye-catching and distinctive feature of the new model's silhouette.

The combination of sportiness, style and luxury is particularly clear when viewed from the side. Longer side window surfaces than those found on the two-door BMW 6-Series models hint at the extra space available in the rear compartment. Side windows extending far back into the C-pillar give the passenger compartment the low-slung, stretched look typical of Coupes. The more generous greenhouse also allow light to flood the interior, further enhancing the feeling of space inside and all-round visibility for the rear passengers. High-quality Chrome Line Exterior surrounds for the side windows complement the coupe style window line. The hallmark BMW Hofmeister kink at the transition to the C-pillar is given an extra touch of style in the form of etched "Gran Coupe" model lettering set against a sporty texture in the rear section of the side window.

Powerfully flowing surfaces - which open out as they extend back from the front end and stretch over the full length of the body before feeding into the muscular rear end - give the BMW 6-Series Gran Coupe a naturally sporty look. The character line streaming out from the gill on the front wheel arch takes in the door handle and runs the full length of the car, emphasizing the athletic elegance of its side view. Around the rear wheels, the surfaces below the character line push outwards, enhancing the impression of a powerful car with a strong, assured stance on the road. Plus, the light surfaces generated above the rear wheel arches draw further attention to the wide track and the power being channelled through the rear wheels.

Another character line, emerging from the curvature of the front wheel arch, drops down between the gill feature and the door, before levelling out and extending horizontally to the rear. The unbroken shadow surface above the side sill emphasises the car's muscular stance from the side.

The rear-end design: horizontal lines and clean surfaces.
Clearly structured surfaces and horizontal lines add further presence to the car's powerful rear end, which acts as a pointer to the BMW 6-Series Gran Coupe's impressive roadholding and the sporting nature of the vehicle concept as a whole. The lines of the rear end become noticeably broader as they blend into the wheel arches bulge. All of which gives the rear view an extremely low visual center of gravity. The conspicuously flared wheel arches spotlight the car's wide track and underline the horizontally structured character of the rear. The trunk lid and rear fascia both have flatter surfacing than their counterparts on the other BMW 6-Series models. The more clearly sculpted sill emphasises the overall volume of the rear end and brings striking details such as the rear lights and exhaust tailpipes more clearly into view.
